If it makes you feel any better, I have to use things to steady myself when I get out of bed to pee in the middle of the night. First it is the dresser, then it is the corner of the wall before I get to the bathroom, then I am ok. It's a little routine I do around 3 am everymorning. It's fun. You should find things to hold on to and make a game out of it...like head shoulders knees and toes - Nightable, marble table, dresser and wall, dresser and wall...

On the topic of warmth - it was in the positive degrees here today....note the word TODAY, yesterday and the day before was the epitome of winter wonderland with gigantic snowflakes! I find that I get defensive about things too - it's not just you and you don't need to appologize. Try being a jr. high school teacher and then let me know what you think about all these kids that have such a strong sense of 'entitlement.' It's absurd that in classes when we ask about needs vs. wants and things necessary for survival or things that they value in life the answers are always along the lines of money, Ipods, cell phones, etc. Scary.
