"Blaming piracy is easy. But it hides other underlying causes. When Sins popped up as the #1 best selling game at retail a couple weeks ago, a game that has no copy protect whatsoever, that should tell you that piracy is not the primary issue." WOW! I totally love this paragraph. This article is very well written and sums up mythoughts and frustraitions with the PC market games. After all the new console systems came out I looked at them and thought "I'm buying a

Honestly I'm more worried about my means to pay for internet connection in the shorter-term. Cool about the backup, I should try it out for keeping my game at the current patch... and maybe call and try to persuade one of my parents to letting me give them money and using their credit card to get the expansions hehe. Thanks for the official reply! I love the kitty avatar btw.

I am one of the people who who basically never play online. I felt it was a major and unnecessary hassle to make a separate ICO account just to play online, but I did anyway. I actually find myself looking at the changes in every patch going "why the bleep would they nerf that and buff those?" but I download the patches anyway even if I don't notice how the game is affected and it actually messes up a previous play style I was using. I honestly think this game is too sm

As someone said before about using Culture spread - it's called making a tough decision and sticking to it. This reminds me of how people whined that in Fable (I've never played that game actually) if you chose the "good" path you ended up scarred and whatever and cried about how being good should have a better reward than being bad... Guess what? Being good is NOT the easy path. The path of the "dark side" is the easy path of anger and violence.

Yes. This is not just for Sins but for every RTS game. Actually FPS's too. Actually... this is why I play offline RPG's... all the time I need to select what I'm going to do and out-think my opponents. My death is like delivery food - garanteed in minutes. I can barely handle the computer on normal and most humans are like the comp on hard right? I've played one or two games and they were fun. I think one addition that would make o
For real... everyone would use that Vasari one.
Nah, I like to see the grey aliens skins. It is a a very cool picture though. The in game portrait set I use is the one with the TEC comander who has a beard and the Advent chick has the cybernetic stuff coming out of her face. In this picture the Vasari looks awesome and I might use that as a portrait if it were in game once in a while but not if the you

I refuse to buy any EA games that have SecuRom or anything as well. OK... I bought one game knowing it had suckurom a month ago, but other than that the only game published by EA I bought was Dragon Age Origins which had no SecuRom, but unfortunately they are using DLC as a form of DRM to prevent legitimate consumers from buying their expansions. I'm glad about SoaSE - Trinity is going to be released in stores, but I'd like an expansion only version so I don't have to pay the

Really? Nerf to the SCOUT weapons? That's um... to put it lightly... "a bad idea". It took like 3 or 4 scouts to kill one of the initial starting combat light ships as far as I have noticed. I have never built more than 6 in existence at one time anyway to explore the universe but they should be effective still in groups vs lone ships. I have no idea about online game balance since I don't really play online games much but I can't imagine anyone using a fleet of scouts to

I hate DLC and "micro expansions" and whatever other fancy names the various game companies want to call vaporware. I would have bought these if they were in a store with a CD/DVD (and all related patches up to date on that CD/DVD) that I didn't have to download and can re-install without having an internet connection. My main problem is if/when I re-install the game years from now... will the company still host the patches and the expansion downloads? Will they still be arou

I know for a fact that stores will sell things that are cheaper online or at another store. A retail version with a box, disk, & manual are more than you would get with online and is a different version of the product with less hassle for the customer in the long run.
If this is true then provide a credible source for this information.
Reality & History are my sources. It's a fact</em

You missed or chose to ignore where I said before: The retail version would be $15 not $10. The $5 difference seems to be "the norm" for retail vs online prices. It's perfectly reasonable for the cost of the packaging/disk/manual. Even if they didn't raise the price there would still be profit in it over purely online only sales like now... There are many more purchases are from people picking stuff up because they are browsing a retail store than going online to speci

Allegiance86 is probably right, they likely wouldn't have it be a universe-killing blast. To explain the whole idea came from the first images: There's the beacon / weapons lab with the words Kron 10,000 years ago then the Vasari finger moving to the buttons then the beacon / weapons lab thing again and it's going kaboom with crackling energy that is certainly not fire with the naration of they've been on the run a long time. On the other hand

Everyone get off your f*ing high horses and lower your noses before you drown in the rain. Yes, when you cannot afford something you use it for free, that is called logic, no "excuse" needed. As a dragon I hate actual theft, but anything that can be reproduced infinitely without ever actually taking something cannot be "stolen". I realize mundanes don't have the love of clarification and classification of every minute difference and detail I do though.
Quoting Haree78, reply 100 I'm no marketing guru but wouldn't it be a little crazy for IC not to release a "Game of the Year" edition that includes the 2 micro expansions or keys to download them at something like the price of the original game when it came out? It's very simple and easy to sell a disk in a box in on a shelf in a store that only gives you a key and you still have to get onto Im
Again, comparing video game violence to film or literature violence is a dead end. Books and film aren't about you they are about other characters. You are not experiencing your story. You are experiencing theirs. There's a difference. That would be fine too, I've bought two of the Fallout3 DLC which you can buy point cards in stores then redeem them from the people who handle the distribution. (I'm being vague so as not to promote them) However... I really like to have hard copies so I only have to spend 5-10 minutes re-installing if I have to rather than spend 5 minutes re-installing then another few hours to few days re-downlaoding. I usually burn to DVD patches too for that reason, for games that have manua

Suggestion: Please add another line and check box under Cinema make the intro movie selectable to always play instead of having to re-click it every time I play so I get to see the cool intro. Two questions. 1.) Is this available for download now? - I opened Impluse (which I'm in now) and tried to "verify installation" to get the new update to announce itself but it didn't. 2.) Which leads me to ask if this

Agreed with the guy above. My favorite book when I was 4 or 5 (and yes I could read then due to being read to every night and private schooling) was "Jack the Giant Killer". I know you're thinking of the mickey mouse version now, it wasn't like that at all... It showed 2 giants with nooses around their necks pulling against each other because it was the same rope thrown over high point. A pit with spikes at the bottom with a giant falling down about to hit it. My favor

A huge portion of the original post was about what was chasing them. "Just not gonna happen" I dissagree with the course your logic went. It was one way to look at it, but certainly not the only way as you implied. First off... what campaign? There is no campaign in the game, just a backstory and, as you said, really cool space battles. Second... The univers is large, very very large. That means alot of time to hop out a certain dista

I read the first page of replies so I don't know if this has been said in pages 2-5. Another race following the Vasari isn't the impression I got from the intro movie. The impression I got was that they tested a new weapon, something planned for being planet or even solar system killing... and it worked... too well. The blast radius kept growing, to their surprise, being fed by every planet, star, comet, and asteroid it that got caught in it. They estima

I don't seem to have a settings folder in my SoaSE folder when I look there. Not where my Impulse is either. Also my Vista search can't find a user.settings file. Thanks for the tip though, when I finally get that lightbulb above my head and figure out where it is. EDIT: Found it. Tested it. Same as clicking the option in menu... reverts to FALSE as per usual. Thanks anyway.

The empire tree is nothing new. In ye olden days the games were just 2,3 & 4 - 2D colored icons with a "tree" to the side. That's how I play this game 90% of the time... for half a day. This game is very easy to learn and control. The only thing I had to do was switch pause to spacebar ala' NWN so I can thumb it quickly. Usiing the # button then holding shift and selecting more units to add to the overall selection then pressing ctrl# again to quic
