Ahhh yes, the perfect topic to hop into :-). I'm in the same boat, had the same problem with one of the betas and now with the final release. Back then i was adviced to disable my antivirus software and that worked (did need a few trial and error attempts though). But with 1.0 nothing seemed help, the setup just got stuck.... when trying to do ANYTHING in Windows it even locked up my whole system (a premiere for anything since i started using Windows 7 tbh), so

I'm sorry for this rather shameless necro, but this very same issue struck me again with the 1.0 executable. Shut down my firewall and my virus scanner, tried it via direct download or automated SD central installation several times, but this time nothing seems to work. Everything else runs fine, drivers up to date, more than 20 GB free disc space, i really don't know why the FE installer gets stuck and hogs almost all of my system resources without doing a

I guess i didn't make myself that clear, sorry for that. Partly because of a certain language barrier please excuse that as well. As this probably isn't the right thread for it so just in short: With pioneer spam, yes i meant this rather hasty land grab at the beginning. I love to explore the wilds and fight against monsters and do quests. Granted, you still can do that when all the goodies lie in your territory but that rather feels like cleaning

Not that i'm not excited and i don't want to sound negative but.... .....is the game ready for the final beta phase yet? As far as i remember beta 5 is supposed to be feature lock time. Can problems like pioneer spam, general game pacing or population only contributing to gildar production be countered by balance/polishing stuff? Or are you still willing to overhaul something big time IF you should decide, that a bit of tweaking alone wouldn't do?<b

Tired of fighting an AI unit close to a resource and losing it anyways because the death animation places the unit in the tile and destroys it during my turn.
This is possible? Hilarious! And yes, i fully agree, this notification always needed and still needs work.

Hate to say it, but it even got worse with the latest update. Sometimes i'm getting starting locations without any tile yields (!) now, aproximately 2 times out of 10. In CIV terms this would equal a settler starting... in the sea :-D.

Now when marketing it make sure you say "From the makers of GalCiv2 and Sins of the Solar Empire" DO NOT in any way shape or form even mention WOM. I know a few people that won't even try this game because WOM was so bad and put a bad taste in thier mouths. Even though I tried to t

Some very interesting changes, cannot wait to try them out. But i have to agree with others, although the buff to unity mass is nice, i still don't think the AL are on par with the other factions. They still lack that certain "Wow-i'd-hit-that" mechanic all the other factions have... at the same time it more and more looks like the dev's are very reluctant to change something in that area. Do you really think that they are ok or even too strong to buff them?<

Something has to be done about this. In the last 3 threads i read today (including this one), the issue with AIs settling peacefully beside guardians, who only wake up when the player overtakes the area of influence, was part of the topic..... and accounted to problems concerning wildland strength, early game expansion and the new city spam bias. Even encountered it in myself last game, AI built an outpost beside..... those big wingless dragon things (name escaped me ATM), as

Graphics are fine. They may lack insane texture resolutions and bazillions of polygons per model, but the look is consistent, evocative and has a distinct style. The only field i would wish for an overhaul are the faces in character creation..... for a 2012 (maybe 2013) game they are very generic, sometimes downright ugly, most of the hairstyles look like plastic helmets. And the color sliders are a bit cumbersome at times (e.g. for skin tones). But other than

True, the initial resource distribution seems to be a bit better in 0.95, but there's still a long way to go. Yesterday for example i had bad luck on a row and control-N'd my way through at least 5 starting spots without essence and very meager resources. @Malsqueek: Agreed, mountains for creating barriers and choke points would be fine, but often they're so massive, that i only see them as a waste of map space. Especially when they cut off ranges

Somehow my last attempt was fruitful. I had ot disable my firewall, antivirus device AND had to run the setup.exe manually while giving it administrator rights (because after loading endlessly on the try before, windows gave me some "you don't have the rights to blablabla" message at last). Hope i don't have to go through such a process in the future, i'm reluctant to leave my system without any protection during an installation. And every other (Stardoc

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the problem. OR at at least just a a part of it. Deactivated my antivirus und my firewall as well, but the setup still loads like crazy and can't be forced quit either. Another thing i've noticed, when i attempt to install it via the SD central, there are two greyed out buttons, above a "pause" button and a activating button "below". Because i never used the new SD central for the former b

I tried downloading it from the Stardock page and via the SD central multiple times, but when i double click on the setup.exe nothing happens (it hogs all my RAM though and sometimes even refuses to be quit forcefully). The longest time i waited for something to happen was more than 40 minutes, i guess it isn't silently unpacking. All my drivers are up to date and nothing else prduces any visible conflicts. Please help.

Yes, I'd be fine if the game itself would not try to load older map types (and crash) but the galaxy forge itself would... so i even had a chance to update them. @harpo: Strange, so you say the bug was introduced between 1.00 and 1.02? So there's me hoping even more that this is just an oversight and not a conscious design decision.

I tried both map types, ones that i created with GF3 (because they worked in the Rebellion Beta and GF3 was more stable than the beta forge back then) and others that were exclusively made with the Rebellion beta forge. Needless to say the GF3 maps don't work at all, BUT why some maps made via the beta editor work and others don't is completly beyond me.
In all sense Vasari don't really need enslaved labor. Sure it's a nice bonus to have but they do have the best extractor economy. Also when it comes to neutral extractors you can almost guarentee Vasari will have it first and keep it due to their scouts. The TEC matches and overruns by sheer credit income. Hm, i'm a bit torn on this. Personally i don't regret the 30€ for Rebellion. And i've played quite a few games in the beta and let me say this: Just going through a checklist can not represent the effect the new changes have at gameplay. If you follow some of the heated forum debates, the "minor" additions of Corv's, Titans and the faction techs shook the gameplay up enough already ;-D. So i'm seeing the content being fine, maybe not

But it seems a bit apparent, that they removed it only due to lore concerns. Or let me rephrase that: Sure, Vasari can do without Enslaved Labour too..... but doesn't it look a little strange when the VL, who have a serious economic edge over the rebels anyway (planet eating, caps producing money and science), now exclusively get a credit discount tec on top of that? I've yet to see a convincing reason why a simple rename of the tech wouldn't have

Seems like roughly 2 thirds of my maps created with the beta editor stopped working. They'll even crash the game when attempting to switch to the custom maps tab. And the one's who crash can't be opened in the editor as well. Although i do acknowledge that the former editor was beta, it's still a little saddening that the difference between it and the release version undoes hours of my work for no apparent benefit (release editor looks and feels almo

The tractor beam and especially the teleport sounds cool. Granted they must not be able to counter their counters effectively , but a little help to fend off attacks which are NOT dedicated efforts in late game (and then only) could work out. But alas, this close to to release any conceptual musings let alone a proper implementation of such major changes are somewhat moot. Call me pessimistic but beside a few major Vasari nefs i can only imagine a few crumbs
