Oh, haha. Thanks Xrati, but I already knew about templates, and I do use them anytime I develop a particularly cool looking ship, but I think you might have misunderstood. IIRC, the default behavior for the shipyard update screen is to remove all the functional components from your ships. I was just commenting that it took me forever to find the option to disable that behavior, so that functional components remain when you want to update a ship.

Tourism gives you money, which is dependant on how large your population is compared to that of the rest of the galaxy (I think? Anyway, it's based on the size of your empire). That would more likely than not be more than enough to make up for the -1 or -2 bc that each colony is losing. If you look at the domestic tab, in the spot where it shows your net income, it should have two columns, one that displays your income, and one that displays your expenditures.
Well, in support of the whole ridiculously powerful weapon thing, if you think about it, it does mimic real life to an extent. I mean, is there really any defense against nuclear weapons? Maybe you could have other missiles intercept them, but that seems like it would be of only limited effectiveness at best. In addition, even the body armor worn by modern soldiers is only really useful for shrapnel and the like, if someone wearing a bullet proof vest gets hit with any sort
You don't know how to build ships? I'm assuming, you don't know how to design ships? It's fairly simple, and I'm sure there's a tutorial about it. However, to design a ship, you just go into the shipbuilder menu. There are a variety of tabs. The first one is hull size, then comes "eye candy," then engines, weapons, then defense, then misc, I believe. First, you pick a hull size (cargo, tiny, small, etc). Cargo ships can fit a lot of stuff, but they on
No problem. One downside to having the game be so darn customizable is that the configure menus can be rather large, and the thing that is causing a problem can be rather small. It took me forever to find and uncheck that goofy "remove all useable components when updating" option, when I first installed ToA and I was aware of its existence!
This may be a dumb question but ... Does it get moving again after you click the turn button? I know that the game processes any automated movement (traveling en route, auto survey, etc.) after you've clicked the turn button. In my relatively brief time lurking on these forums, I've noticed a few people not realize this, and I don't know how experienced you are, so if I've asked you the GalCiv2 equivalent of "Is your computer plugged in?" and you're the GalCiv2 equivalent of a computer
I to the contrary told you exactly how information came into being LOL. You never explained how information comes into being without a mind.
I study Computer Science, and in Computer Science you work a lot with information (obviously). Based on my experience with it, information is just the set of an entity's attributes, whatever that entity may be (an idea, a person, a rock).<
As for evolution, according to the theory of evolution, animals adapt to their environment. Yes there is such a thing as evolution (the Galapagos are an excellent example). However, if you notice on those islands, none of what they evolved from remains, so if we evolved from monkeys, why are they still here?
Eh, actually we DIDN'T evolve from modern-day monkeys. Assuming the Theory of Evolution is
Hello! I'm a relative newcomer to the forums, and the game, I've owned it for a while, but I haven't had much time to play it, unfortunately. All I have to say is, this is an awesome read! I've considered trying to write an AAR, but haven't really had it transform into something solid. There is one thing I've noticed too, about playing this game, some the decisions you have to make to win certainly make you feel a bit dirty ... Anyway, keep it up!
Fail: "Completely unpredictable" is just a nice way of saying "lunatic." Win: I'm a double major in Math and Computer Science, I run track, and I STILL have time to play GalCiv 2 on a regular basis.
What about using the Milky Way galaxy map? I seem to remember them occupying a world in the center of the galaxy, in DA at least, when you use that map (though I've only played the Milky Way galaxy map once, so maybe I was just lucky).
, in terms of making a larger empire less ridiculously powerful, you could take a leaf out of the real world, and look at the US. The United States is BIG, and this bigness brings in some major problems. First: infrastructure. It is a lot more difficult and more expensive to keep roads, bridges etc. up to date in the US, because there are just so many of them. So, perhaps you have some sort of "generic empire-wide maintainance" fee that increases based on h
I was going to read all of the comments to make sure I wasn't repeating, but then I saw 52 pages ... so if I repeat anything said between pages 11ish and 52 (likely) I apologize. Also, lots of text following. Sorry. I'm long winded. First, have a campaign. Make it awesome. Make it epic. Make it desperate. I loved the Dread Lords campaign because there was this desperate feel to it as you struggle to bring your strengths to bear (high populati
