I've read that families on the extreme makeover home edition in a significant number of cases end up losing their house later because of inability to pay the required taxes on the house. Which really makes the show seem alot less "feel-good" than it initially is. (though in this case, i don't think she deserves a new house because of the situation that she had total control over and still put herself in)
We get automated check-out ilnes and illegal immigrants doing a lot of work that used to be done by Americans.
Check out lanes are awesome. ;) I think a bigger part of work being done by illegal immigrants is because some americans are too 'proud' for some work and why work when they can get benefits instead? That's a smaller point in this particular topic though. Outsourcing coding work

Do they have a public drag strip / race track near where you live Brad? I'd suggest that as a fun way to race and not worry about other cars, etc. Also lets you work on timing your shifts, etc :) And, totally off-topic (kinda), but since you read alot of books and I remember reading a post way back years ago you made about this, do you have any recommendations on books in the general area of evolution / God / probablity of life / etc (non-ID stuff though)?

i Jill, Please don't take my mini-rant on bail-outs as directed towards your husband's company. I get the impression from reading his other posts that stardock isn't run like the irresponsible corporations that are making the news so I really did get off tangent and on a little rant there. The whole issue bugs me and I see red and start foaming at the mouth :) It was not directed to Stardock though. Brad, Ah, I see. :)</
Improve my email communication skills. How I communicate online is very different from how I am in person even though I use the same words.
Brad, would you happen to be slightly autistic? I don't mean that as any type of assault. I have a friend that is autistic and he mentioned the exact same thing to me because he knows he lacks some empathy because of his autism and misses how some of his words come across (also very slight).
I already do.
Oh :) This is none of my business but I've seen alot of your recent posts are about your issues with the tax system. Are your issues with the tax system more from an ethical or intellectual curiosity then? If you're writing off alot of your taxes, I'd imagine you pay a lower tax rate than most "normal" middle-class people do. Though I don't know if you
When someone argues that it’s not fair for the rich to have so much and the poor to have so little should the rich guy say “Well move to Cuba then, in the meantime, shut the hell up.”?
Hrmm...I don't think I've heard many rich or middle-class people say something like "move to another country!". It's not very reasonable. You make it sound like something you hear everyday. The only rich people complaining that bother me are the ones sa

I think this is a step down on the offend-o-meter from the last article. :( A sure fire route I've found is to bring up a race issue if you are going for mass offend rays Brad :)

*shrug* brad...it seems like the guys you are describing are the ones that were party animal frat boys in their college years and want to let the good times keep rolling. Most of the people I know as in see daily are getting married and settling down in our 20's...but most are nerdy engineers like me. what the heck are you doing out at night clubs at 40 observing this behavior anyway??

cool beans brad. i'm looking forward to see what advancements there are from vista to 7. I just wish MS would use a file system that doesn't have to deal with fragmentation. Guessing windowsblinds support in 7 won't be a huge overhaul for you guys since everything I've read sounds like 7 is an incremental update from vista as opposed to a major rewrite under the hood. -rattasak

very nice brad. there are some engines out there that use attachment points to equip props onto 3d character models to give modelers a consistent anchor point...are you guys doing something similar? I've seen some rpgs that do use separate models for props, but haven't read about any that simulate the props with full physics (other than capes), so that sounds like an addition that adds alot of nice aesthetics I think. maybe add scaling dimension information for each l
Well...I am living in the a cave in thailand right now...hence the sparse replies from me ;) I'm not asking you your sources to test you. I'm curious what are some of the books you read that talk about this? I question pretty much everything, so I hope you don't take
Wealth isn't static. If it was, we'd still be living in caves. The first lesson you need to learn about wealth is that it is not zero-sum.
You know, I admit I don't know much about economics, but there is only a limited number of hours in the day and it's somewhere in the middle of interests for me. It'd be nice if a day was longer. But from what I can gather, it seems var

And is the $1 to $1000 rate a rough number thown out there by the book to give an idea of the difference between normal spenders and people who create a large amount of wealth or are there people out there that you could relate that too? I mean, it seems difficult for me to give an accurate number for something like that for example to a jeff bezos since I don't really know the rate of growth of his company so i can convert time to dollars. And also...if I wanted to

36 Replies 13,467 Views

Hrmm...I get the point about the exchange rate of money (as in the input and output amounts)...but since tehre is a fairly static amount of "wealth" in the world, doesn't that require there to be suckers out there that turn $1 to $0.50 (that is spend beyond their means) so that other people can turn $1 to $2? (Just so I don't sound like a whiney poor sucker bastard, I don't spend beyond my means [my means are still low anyway since I'm still in school] and my parents are living ni

Brad, I don't totally agree with part of your argument brad. I think the 38% you are talking about are the lazy people in America (minus some extraneous cases). I would be inclined to believe a good portion of those same lazy people are of the mindset of being too oblivious / lazy / etc to get out and vote. At least a larger portion than the people who do work and are responsible. -rattasak
I hate that association of atheism and liberalism. As an atheist conservative I feel as if I am told that my moral beleifs (conservative) are somehow contradictory to my religious ones (atheism). Even though they are not.
You misunderstand me. I was not grouping them together. I mean that both groups (separately) on digg are very condescending.

I stopped reading the comments on digg because of all the condescending leftists and atheists. I'm fine with people that have both beliefs and have friends with both beliefs, but the ones on digg are so condescending. -rattasak
