Especially when the game already works and the only thing missing are patches. Native binaries would certainly be a bonus but I can't see that happening, so I'm content with using Wine. Oh well, I'll just copy the patched version over from my Windows gaming box then.

All right, so I got my preordered copy of Demigod late last week and today finally figured out how to get it run under Wine (it was so simple I'm almost ashamed...) However, it requires using Impulse for patching, and from earlier experience during beta I know that Impulse doesn't like Wine one bit. So the question is, can I obtain the patch separately from somewhere? I understand that it's sort of a copy-discouracing scheme to only let purchasers patch the game, however...&

In the beta I used to be able to beat hard AIs easily enough, so I started a single-player tournament on hard. I was overpowered. A major part of this seems to be that the AIs on my side are just incredibly stupid. While the enemy often moves in groups of two or more, it's rare to see two AIs from my side together. The enemy heads straight for towers, I don't know what the ones on my side are doing but no enemy towers seem to get killed unless I do the job. I tri

I see this as well. My diagnosis is that when the game computes the area that needs to be covered by the shadow map, it somehow fails with certain camera angles and produces a hugely oversized area, thus enlarging the pixel size of the shadow map. How it fails, I can't say for sure - perhaps something to do with tan(x) tending to infinity when x nears plus or minus 90 degrees? My system: WinXP SP2, GeForce 7900GTO, 178.24 Settings: 1680x1050, high detail, no AA

+% mana regen items do work. Plenor Battlecrown is usually one of the first items I buy (I like to play casters), as it has a significant effect on both my max mana and mana regen. Especially when I usually end up buying Hungarling's Crown later in the game. You can observe the effect by buying this item, opening the stats window and right-clicking to drop it on the ground while watching our mana reading. I also think Platemail of the Crusader is worth its price, eve

Enforcing maximum stats feels like a cop-out to me. It's like "Hey, we made this guy too powerful so let's prevent him from gaining more power after level 15". If that Rook can't get more HP, then he'll get more damage/speed/regen or whatever. Granted, capping stats is the only way to make sure people are playing with exactly the stats you've balanced the game with, since any other values will be that much more difficult to obtain. I'm more in favor of some sort of d

I have a PC105 keyboard with a Finnish layout. It has one extra key compared to the PC104 keyboard common in the US. I was playing around with the keybindings, and trying to bind that key caused the game to crash with: Unhandled exception: attempt to use as string a nil value stack traceback: [C]: in function `SetText' ...s\demigod\dgdata.zip\lua\options\module_keybinds.lua(156): in function `OnReceivedKeyFrom

Currently there's no way for players to give any kind of commands or hints to AI demigods. Multiple AIs can team up to some extent, but if a player wants to take advantage of e.g. an AI Sedna's heals, he has to follow the AI around. To remedy this, I suggest that players could set goals for the AI, like mark towers that should be destroyed, flags that should be captured, or request support in pushing towards the enemy Citadel. Any nearby AIs that consider themselves to be fr

This has been mentioned previously, but I couldn't find relevant posts in the first few pages. Precise control over your demigod in a tight situation is still ridiculously hard, let alone trying to get your minions do what you want. The units will stop attacking their target at the slightest provocation and turn to a random nearby creep instead. Once I was bashing a tower, and when some enemy creeps appeared, my demigod thought they would be more fun to kill. This sort

This applies to Erebus at least. When I use Bite and click on a target, I expect one of three things to happen: Erebus immediately performs a Bite Erebus moves to range and performs a Bite I see an error message telling why a Bite was not possible However, occasionally nothing happens, even though I'm standing right next to the target demigod. I am not sure how to reproduce this, but it has occurred in several games against the AI

Currently achievements are only displayed as splash texts (And sometimes not even that? I've gotten favor points but not noticed any achievement announcements). It would be nice if there was a third tab in the scoreboard where I could see all the achievements I got in that game and their favor point values. Possibly also progress made in achievements yet to be completed.

I think the different methods of summoning minions bring some welcome variety to the game. However, seeing the complaints about Oak's spirits being overpowered, there is need for some balance adjustments. It is a thin line between the minions being overpowered and useless. On the other hand, an endgame Sedna with a bunch of mana regen items can resummon her minions pretty much at will too.

I recall that only very balanced games should last over 30 minutes. From that I'd guess that somewhat balanced ones would be on the order of 20-30 minutes, and 10 minutes requires one side to be clearly superior. But yeah, depending on the demigod choices for you and AI, killing them is sometimes ridiculously easy. Item costs should be balanced in human versus human games, and preferably the evenly matched ones.

No comment on the suggestion, but I tend to concentrate on the skill-based minions at the beginning. In a short game, it's not uncommon that I disregard idols altogether. As for having to choose between equipping your demigod and buying citadel upgrades, yes, I think that is intentional. It adds more variety to the game when you can't always get everything.

I have some further observations on this. Nightcrawler summoning breaks every time you advance Improved Conversion Aura, and is fixed every time you advance Coven. As a workaround, put points to them in pairs, clicking ICA first and Coven after that. If you take the last level in Coven and then max ICA, you're screwed for the rest of the game. My guess is that Improved Conversion Aura somehow sets the max amount of Nightcrawlers to zero.

I'm pretty sure I saw this somewhere already, but couldn't find the thread. So I'm reporting it again. I just played a game of Sedna (me) vs Oak (nightmare AI), and especially towards the end my yetis started to behave very stupidly. They will very easily forget the enemy DG if he walks away, sometimes even when the enemy is still there - whereas my own DG will eagerly follow the enemy right up to the health crystal, and sometimes needs several clicks on the ground to turn

As already mentioned, edge scrolling can be found in the options. Personally, I like keyboard scrolling, but tastes differ. I agree that minimap navigation would be nice. However, having played SupCom a lot, I was quickly at home using zooming to move quickly from one place to another. Again, this may not work for everyone. Regarding generals sitting at the crystal and summoning troops. There is a limit to how many minions can be summoned - total 12 fro

The AI seems to be very slow in acquiring minions when it's playing a general, and sometimes forgoes its special minions altogether. In a normal game that lasts 20-30mins, it's rare to see any idol minions at all, which means that half the time I won't see a single minion from an AI general in a game. Same goes for the creeps bought from the fortress. I played one game which I deliberately dragged on to see what the AI would do when given time. I was playing Regulus, w

Here's mine. As you can see from the photos, I've tried to tie up any extra lenghts of cable and keep them off the floor where possible. It all starts under the desk: The middle tower is an APC Back-Ups RT 2000VA. All the computer equipment in my living room is plugged into it, and I actually have enough to push it over its load limit if I turn everything on. A shot from be

Some of you may know the Warfare game mode from the FPS game Unreal Tournament 3 (and its predecessor Onslaught from UT2004). For those that don't, here's a brief summary: both teams control a Power Core, which are linked to each other through a series of Power Nodes. In order to win, you have to destroy the other team's Core. But you can only touch Nodes that are linked to a Node you control, so first you have to capture an unbroken chain of Nodes right up to the enemy's ba

I agree, generals should have more of an RTS feel to them. I'm largely ignoring the idols and saving my gold for citadel upgrades and +mana items. I do like Sedna's yetis and Oak's spirits though. QoT's shamblers were somehow not so convincing for me, but perhaps I haven't played her enough. Perhaps the idols could be replaced with items that give bonuses to the general's army? Such bonuses could be removed from the common items then. Or possibly allow co
