The solution is to create your own henchman, which is one of the character choices along with male and female. You can pick as many of the elements as your abilities slots can hold. I agree the Mage is kind of lame. It it got more powerful as it leveled up, that might make a difference.

I will confirm this one. Seen it as well. Good catch.
First of all, congrats on the release. It looks great. Some of the issues I mentioned prior to this release still exist. The big ones: 1. Tactical battles still hang. I've been noticing the hangs happen after an archer plays. 2. Event scheduling is still clumsy. Tech notifications still step on city building and unit design. Turn cycles still do not behave correctly. 3. In city building, often building two units or improvements triggers a ne
This picks up a conversation I got into on another thread. How many of you folks think this game is ready for Prime Time? I still see typos, combat crashes, and massive event scheduling errors. If I am being a picky old geek then so be it. However, it is my feeling that if this game is released as is, the critics will turn this game in to chum. In my opinion, too much hard work and good work at stake to lose it all now.
Wow. Lots of response here. Obviously the elves in the back room need to crank it up. I will try another game without auto turn to confirm, but I trust you folks. My personal plea: If this delays the release of the game, it will still be less embarrassing than leaving things as they are. After the original Elemental, there is an inherent skepticism that you already need to overcome. Events that don't behav
I posted before about mishaps with event scheduling. They are indeed linked to auto turn. Played without it on and the events stepping over each other were gone. Having said that, playing without auto turn becomes tedious when the game entails hundreds of turns. Auto turn is essential and needs to follow a few basic rules: 1. Auto turn must be able to recognize when an event is not completed, ie building in cities. Editing in ci
This time around, I've noticed several of the text descriptions have grammatical errors or just the wrong word. Will try to get more specific, but just as a heads up, someone needs to go over all your text boxes with an evil editor's eye.
The latest beta looks pretty good, Played through a game or two. Still getting occasional lock ups in the battle screen; seems to happen after the second of my archers turn- can't target and the battle locks up. Can get out of it with the quickie 'finish battle button,' but the lock ups are not completely gone. There are times when I load the game that it runs well; other times the frame rate is slow. Quitting out and rebooting helps, but that should not need to be the sol
Good luck on your launch in 10 days. I am certain this has been addressed by this time, but just for the record, I've seen some pretty erratic behavior in events scheduling. Example 1: I am building in a city and suddenly the I am interrupted by the turn changing. Example 2: I am about to enter a fight and I am interrupted by an announcement of a city improvement. The general trend when this misbehavior happens is that one event does not comp
It only took me less than four hours before my first game crash, but it was a doozy. Again, it was in the combat screen. The machine locked up and I had to ditch out using the Task Manager. I waited for about five minutes before I took this step, hoping that whatever loop the program was in would time out, but no luck. This crash is significant because when I went to restart the game today, the .exe file was running, but no application came up. It is now ten minutes after I started the game a
Yeah. I've played a few more games now and it is falling into place a bit better. Call me crazy, but I've only had one crash since I shut off the sound. This is not science. I have not beta tested it. I got the idea by the way the crash happens. When the screen freezes, there is an accompanying low hum on the speakers. So I turned off the sound. Played better for me. My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti. This might be one more thing to t
Arrrggghhhhh!!! No sooner did I post the previous than the dreaded BSOD showed up. So scratch item 4. I'm tempted to run the game in a virtual machine but I'm concerned there is more than enough load on my machine with this game to begin with.
Thanks for the new game. Here is my initial feedback: 1. The balance of the game has changed dramatically. By integrating 'Build' and 'Train,' the initial pace of the game is slooooooooowwwwww. Maybe it just takes some familiarity, but for my tastes there were too many 'End Turn' clicks before something happened. If you want the armies to build slowly, you could just increase their build time. 2. When heroes die, they get sent to a city with a penalty.
I like the City Zoom. It is not a key feature in the game. but it is nice to have.
Apologies. The actual link for my error report is: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29961743/debug3.err
Just got the latest patch. Persistent problem with the pop-up info window which comes up when you sprite over a location or character. It comes up but never goes away. Not good. Also got an error while a character was moving on the map with the BSOD and the message that the application was trying to access memory it could not access. The bloody details are here. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/
Arrrggghhhh!!!!! I've been waiting for the update for months. Now I have it and I am wondering how back burner this project has become. The memory management is NOT improved; it is more sluggish now than before and to top it off, the game crashed mid-battle. The screen just goes black; the machine has not really crashed- it just SHUTS DOWN!! There is not even a Windows message on reboot that indicates the OS thinks there is a problem. I tried to upload the d
I have played the PC version of Ars Magica. Great idea. Gorgeous art. Mixed feeling about the game play.
@ alaknebs: Nothing "ish" about it! Grab a pair of red/cyan glasses and I will jump off the page. On second thought, that might not be the droid you are looking for. For those interested in my anaglphy 3D stuff: http://www.webtales.us <p
Right you are. Originally, I thought the Soverign was tied to the Intelligence requirement. After a few more iterations of the game, and your note, I see I was mistaken.
So my first question is, how does this change in staff impact the delivery of v1.2? My second question is, will the "out of memory" error be fixed in the next release?
"It may have been called Sid Meier's Civilization V on the box, but the real creative mind behind the game was young lead designer Jon Shafer. But after getting a chance to lead the development on one of the biggest PC franchises there is, Shafer decided to leave Civ developer Fireaxis to pursue other interests. And now he has announced just what those interes
Re: Glowing Ember I'm not sure I understand your point. Any of the Sovereign kids or Imbued could cast the Spell of Making if they were the first to level up to 100 points of Intelligence. I like it that each spell has an Intelligence requirement; if your Sovereign does not have that many Intelligence points, she/he can't cast the spell. In the past, I would spend a certain number of level up points on increasing hit points, strength or dod
Do you want the good news or the bad news first? The good news? I thought so. After chewing up days playing the new game, I find it a much richer experience than 1.0. Thanks. The balance is much better and the scaling is much more commensurate with the growth of the kingdom. The search for food as the main priority at the beginning of the game is right on. In the context of the story line, it makes perfect sense. The new tech trees are prett
One more thing. "Elemental" reminds me in many ways of the old Microprose classic, "Darklands." If you are looking for a model to beef up your subquests, this would be a good place to start. The early subquest maps could be simple; the more advanced ones more maze like, more dangerous and more rewarding. Since I think the odds on getting the pony are short, I will settle for this instead.
