One mistake i did recently is to upgrade my fleet capacity, and so increase high resources penality. My advice is to keep a little fleet at the beginning, and increase the fleet technology when you really need it. It can help :)

If I've understood, in order to travel through wormholes, i just have to send my fleet in the nearest wormhole of my planet? So, if there are more than two wormholes in the map, where my fleet will choose as destination?
