To be honest, I know that Desktop X can do many things, but I have never been able to utilize it. It frustrates the heck out of me. I am a diehard Nextstart user. It is easy to skin and customize and meshes well with other customizing programs.
I had the same problem...turned out to be Zone Alarm. when I disable it then the update worked.
I certainly haven't turned out the number of skins that some have done. Partly it is inspirational blackouts and partly the time involved. It takes an ENORMOUS amount of time to produce a quality skin and I think that this is why things seem to be slowing down. I also agree that the time needed can result in the artist loosing interest before it is completed. All that said I can not see this art dying. Once you use skins it is hard to quit.

Thanks Jebland...I have done all that, tried clean install and everything. My system either freezes up or the text all turns into hyroglyphics.

I have an ATI 7500 all in Wonder. I am very frustrated with it because I have never been able to update the drivers. I can only use the old ones that came with it.
BOY, call me stupid!!! I got confused with SD Central and accidently installed version 3.5 thinking it was an updated 4.
Just installed the newest WB4...Now Explorer toolbars are back to their normal size.

I too would love png support. I have never been comfortable with Skin Studio and to use it to convert pngs to tga is just plain clumsy and awkward.
