Confused and a bit upset in Sins of a Solar Empire Sins Forums

I bought Sins GotY from Best Buy yesterday, installed the game late last night only to find that there have been two expansions that were released. So I bought them both. After installing both expansions, I discovered that you can only play one expansion at a time. What's the point in buying "improvements" in the game if you can only play one expansion at a time?
