Do you mean "my replies" by "recently active posts" ? Because I have no page called the latter. At the moment all is fine for me, even General, but we'll see how it goes. I'll be sure to post when I encounter any problems. I'll also be more patient with pages loading, as with only 1 server on it might take bit longer than usual.

Actually, just to add the thought, I think how people look at SSDs all depends on where they come from. You have roughly two groups of people. 1) And I assume sir astral belongs to this group, is the group that has the money to spend and just wants an awesome performing system. They'll say "Sweet, if I spend the money I will have the best performance of data I/O." 2) The either poorer group or less PC-enthousiastic group will say "Hmm nice upgrade, but it's not worth the money
(...)
Well I stand (partially) corrected here. I know all you posted, I unfortunately didn't look at all the benchmarks on that site I quoted. In other benchmarks a single OCZ or Intel does stand up to 4 Raptors. Ofcourse sequential read/write speeds will be higher for Raptors in raid than SSDs, but read/write speeds aren't the USP of SSDs anyway. Too bad it's what they advertize with. About the "synthetic

Just to avoid confusing from my post I'll clarify. I've never responded to the SSD vs RAM discussion. Both can be useful depending on your current system config. I've responded 1) to sir astral's claim that one OCZ can beat 3 or 4 Raptors in Raid0. I've posted numbers that that is nowhere near true, but I'll chalk that up to being overenthousiastic. No harm done. SSDs sure are fast and I like them too. And 2) I've responded to Makerz (or something) that the whole "we need more RA

Actually there are cards out there, much like you'd put in a videocard or sound card, which has an image loaded of your hard drive. That image is fixed (you can change it ofcourse, and then tell it that this is your final image and you don't want it changed) and you can boot off it. You can then run the OS normally, install pretty much everything you need, but when you shut down the computer all the changes made are thrown away. When you boot up again, you boot from that 'fresh' image. That m

Actually I got the fastest graphics card available when I bought one for about that amount. It must have been a pricing error though. Never seen a shop run out of stock so fast :D Graphic cards are indeed very (too) expensive. There are always people that will buy them though, just because they can and/or they want a better PC than their neighbour. Graphic cards now do beat old one hands down by a mile, but only if you have one, like you said, 3 or more generations behind. A simple ca

Actually his statement kinds of makes me /facepalm here. Just because astral is the one that agrees with you Makerz doesn't mean he's the only one with a legit point. Furthermore, the concept that sir astral suggested is quite common. Just about everyone with Raptor hard drives does it, and so do I. I actually have one Raptor just for the OS and one Raptor just for games, but that is more arbitrary than planned. And "crying it's too expensive" ?? I'm sorry, I didn't kn

tl,dr; One thing caught my eye though: "nearly everyone with type 1 diabetes will have died". Errm, okay? I have type one diabetes but you can live on for ages because with a lack of insulin your blood sugar will stay high and even a sugar cube can 'keep you going' for quite a while. Okay, (fresh) food will be gone but you can live on just carbs from your closed a long time. We'd feel piss poor and be destroying our organs, but that won't be of much concern in above situation.

Because it is programmed more efficiently, has waaaay less legacy hardware support, and loads less services. But that was not the point. You stated that we wouldn't need so much RAM if Windows would be programmed better. That is simply not true. I agree that Windows could do with less - it could be a much smoother and slicker OS overall if people didn't want their DOS applications and matrix printer to still work - but in the end it only uses a couple of hundred MB max when oth

Yes and Office 97 runs quite smooth on a pentium 233 mhz too.. That doesn't help us much now. New times demand more data which demands more RAM to work with. Sure you could do with less, you can also clean your bathroom with a tooth brush. That doesn't mean it's productive. But if you prefer it that way, or don't fancy spending the money for better gear, then you won't hear me complain, more power to ya. But don't blame Windows for it.

And great music too ;) "Windows should use less RAM" is a moot (I learnt a new word :D) argument. First, is doesn't 'use' that much, and the word "use" is kind of trivial here, it can mean many things. Most things in Windows will happily give away their RAM usage as soon as you start up a game or such. Recent versions only use a couple hundred MBs of RAM, and you can lower that if you strip down your Windows install. The reason they don't do this themselves is because 9

As to the WOW comparison. WOW had honor, which was set back several times because of serverside problems correctly logging it. You wouldn't actually lose all gear but many people lost a good deal of honor. Many complained, but I don't remember anyone saying they didn't have fun playing PVP anymore because they lost honor. The "losing all gear" comparison is not correct as in WOW you'd lose 10+ items and gear is 50% of your characters damage.
