I'm sure they're aware. The folks behind the original SC I/II (The Ur-Quan Masters), put it up for free. They're also working on a sequel for the original game https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pistolshrimp/free-stars-children-of-infinity As someone who played the game in 1992, the Open Source remakes, blocked out SC3 from memory, and loved Star Control Origins--I'm really looking f

Snowed in -- just replayed the story and expansion, and dying for more. Can't ever find anyone to Fleet Battle with. Anyone up for some battles? How about 7PM EST?

It would be cool if the ships in your fleet (or crew members you recruit in SCO) had more of an impact on the gameplay/story. Maybe the occasional 2v2 or fleet vs fleet battle. Maybe the ships/crew open up new dialogue options. Maybe even the power or number of ships affect dialogue. Could have a mission where you rescue a ship in your fleet or crew member. In general -- it would be cool if the fleet was more than options you choose in fights--would be great if you really felt like you w

Thank you for the response. This was the first time I've tried playing (replaying) since that year. The above steps did not resolve the issue, but performing a "clean re-install" (per your procedure where you remove from Steam, then manually remove a bunch of files and directories), DID seem to fix the issue.

Logs/Specs below. My game has been crashing to the desktop in Melee, usually during or right after the ship selection. I've tried most of the solutions online (Page File, Lowering Settings, etc.) but no luck to date. It always crashes without an error. I can almost always reproduce the crash if I leave the ship selection menu up, during Melee. Thank you in advance! Specs : NVIDIA Titan X i5-10600K MSI Gaming Edge

As long as you nail the exploration--the way the original dropped you in the middle of the universe, with no clue what to do--that feeling made the game so memorable to me. I'd hate to see a Skyrim or GTA approach, where it's "Open world", but really it's just NPCs placing a marker on your map. The SC2 style was "maybe investigate these areas", or "check in with this race". You weren't clobbered with endless quests at each "hub". You only had a general sense of what you wanted

I too want a true SCII sequel, but understand that they have to hook in new fans first. 99% of gamers out there (under the age of 30) probably have never heard of SC. The new game will be 3D using a brand-new 3D engine (more on that soon). 3D != "realistic looking". Think of the Star Control 2 *style* in your mind. More details! 3D as in the combat will be 3D? Or top down with 3D effects? Hard to imagine a SC game without the to

Call me a purist, but there's enough games out there with those RTS elements. I can go play Civ 5 or Sins, or one of the other 500 clones if I want colonies. Not that there's anything wrong with those, or a strategic game couldn't be added/modded on later. Just exploration, dialogue, and adventure for me please. That's all SC2 needed.
As a fan, I have mixed feelings about anyone touching the existing Star Control universe. Couldn't you, I dunno, have 2 universes? Let the new Star Control have have its own set of aliens and leave Paul and Fred's work to stand on its own?
They've essentially stated they're doing exactly that.

The crew-member aspect could definitely be fleshed out a lot more. Each member really only had one stat that effected their job, and it could easily be maxed out early on. It would be cool to add crew members from the different alien races you meet or ally with. One thing that bugged me about SCII was the alliances. They usually involved "here's the design to our ship, now leave us alone for the rest of the game". If you could incorporate the other races as crew members, or escort ships t

(Started this topic in the UQM forums, but I figured it would make sense to post here as well.) Well, after hearing a ton of references to "Starflight", and how it was a "spiritual successor" to SCII, I finally decided to give it a try. I decided on the Sega Genesis port, since that had the most "updated" graphics and controls, and there's plenty of emulators available for PC and Android. You definitely can see the similarities, the first time you leave your home syste

If anything, I could see 2 factions, a SC1 style persistent map, where each side could make territory gains. Played out as strategy or melee matches. I mirror Captain's sentiment though, that I wouldn't want resources taken away from an amazing single player experience.

It's just like how Heroes only had one Season, and Seinfeld somehow started with Season 2. Anyway, I Think there's more than enough material here. I can see it now: The game opens with the conflict between the Earthlings and the Androsynth. The player is sent in a Cruiser to check out a "disturbance". BAM, it's the Chenjesu, all like "YOU'

Anything other than top down would probably kill a lot of the magic. I think there's enough 3D Open World space shooters out there, which would make a new SC harder to stand out. That doesn't mean they can't add the occasional 3d action sequences though. To expand on Alv's idea, you could have your escorts assist in more active ways in "1v1". E.g., You could call in a Yehat or Utwig "shield run", to clear a lane of projectiles. Launch a nuke from a rearwa
