I like the idea, your "Impressiveness" stat could also influence migration patterns. Peasents from a down-trodden or boring and drab empire, seeing the glories of yours, decide that they'd much rather be living under your rule.... Boom! population explosion, and all of a sudden your enemies economies are damaged because their work force is leaving in droves :D
