Playing a hired SoaSE online? in Sins of a Solar Empire Sins Forums

I've recently rented 'Sins of a Solar Empire' and wish to play it's great online multiplayer mode. However, I've found it the case a sticker that says: 'rental copy, do not take online or this copy will be made unplayable'. How does this work? Will it really make the game unplayable? Will it affect the disc, my installation, the product key or nothing? Please reply soon, I'ld like to play a game before I need to return it. Thanks very much
