Yes - the main page gets the ad - if I use another forum link or other page I'm able to get in here. And it's dick smith ad for me too. I got around it by 'scrolling down' - the ad stayed in the upper half of the page.

I'm not griping - just wanting to understand - how is this better than just loading the audio files from the master computer via homegroup/network file sharing/media player? I'm curious - I also get 'limited' time with DX before it starts crashing on load and I also end up reinstalling to fix it - probably because it's such a brute force guaranteed method - I'm being lazy by not digging further. Could there be some sort of 'time trial' code kicking in silently? Maybe it's a windows update that does it to us? It's like windows just decides it hates DesktopX executable suddenly.

You don't need a "SDK". Just set a timer to load the ATOM files (which are XML) feeds every so many minutes and then parse them into a display. Look into MSXML vbscript examples on the web - you'll learn how to create an 'in memory' XML object - load in an external xml file (like the ATOM files) and then read information from them. I'd hazard a guess that he's tapping into the RSS Atom feeds listed on this page: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/catalogs/ It looks like the feeds are already grouped into the days and magnitude categories. Which gadget? What is USGS? What does the gadget do? If it's a Microsoft gadget I believe they have functions built into a dll which are called to retrieve information.

Everytime you load a '.desktop' file - it replaces that entire currentTheme folder. So yes, you would lose the shortcut paths defined within the old theme. Because each theme can be made to work differently, with different object names and by different authors with different scripts, there isn't a standard to where shortcut paths should be saved for users and what format they should be in. So keeping shortcuts from one theme to the next would be a bit tricky to sta

There 'is' a file in each theme directory which is an ini file and it would contain all the information as well. But it's a pain in the ass to parse, and you can only modify it when a theme is unloaded, otherwise DesktopX would overwrite your changes when it unloads.

Hi Gevan. Each shortcut object in a theme is usually a DesktopX object which is a 'shortcut' type and has the target specified. We could feasibly write an object script which scans every object in a theme, identifies the shortcut type ones, and produces a DesktopX form for each object with it's target property. Then we could read the changed values back and apply them to each shortcut object via the Command and CommandParameters properties. :-) Hope

I second this - it caught me a few times - even though it does say password should be 12 chars or less (in some way or another). It accepts the longer password on input, but then, yes, you need to self truncate.

Or you could use a set of aliased hand images at various angles and swap them in depending on the angle of the hand. You might get away with using about 8 or so. If you were extreme, you could generate 360 images, and use one for each angle. If you have hand moving 'smoothly'...you'd need a few more....lol

I can't really tell if it's much of an improvement, but the current clock hand images being used are vertical or horizontal, and then DesktopX rotates them. What if you start with a diagonal image to begin with? It still has 'jaggies', but they look a bit different. Combined with the 'shadow' feature it seems to look better still, but again, maybe isn't really that huge an improvement.

I'm dragging this thread out - because it was linked somewhere in my profile. I want to retract my ancient advice that parent child is the only way to preserve z-order. It seems that if you 'cancel' the Object_OnLButtonDown() function by setting it to 'true' it won't pass the click to whatever causes the window/object layer to move to the top of the z-order.
