I'd say it makes sense that the Vasari beams are pinpoint. I mean, they're supposed to enslave planets right? What good is the planet's population if its dead? So it would make sense to use pinpoint strikes to eliminate key structures so that whoever is in that colony pod doesn't face resistance. Of course, I've always viewed the bombardment as being representative of a general assault on the planet. Let's be honest, by this point in the timeline someone must have developed a defense
