I like "Phoenix" - reborn from ashes of wormhole singularity... XD I'd like the story to avoid a notion where only humans could "save the galaxy" or galaxy could only be saved under human leadership. That's super stupid and lame. I'd also like the story to avoid an idea of humans as "underdeveloped/space stupid" race, only then to have the most powerful Star Destroyer vessel in the Galaxy under their control. This would be just borderline inane.

^ While I agree with your overall sentiment, there are two things I'd like to point out: 1. It's not established that humanity's existence is under question in the new story. Meaning - you're not necessary gonna play a role that requires a lifetime military experience. 2. It's not established that the new starship commander is elected. Meaning - you might get into possession of your starship any other unconventional ways. Like you're the last survivor o

^ The reason it becomes tedious is 'cause there's not much variety of stuff to explore. After an hour of playtime it's the same 9 red, green, blue, gray, yellow etc. planets. With "limitless" capabilities of the current H/W it is possible to expand on that and make it 25 planets with 5 super rare types and add other 25 rare cosmic phenomena that'll entice system visitation. Make an achievement for it and it'll actually make sense to explore eveything even after the main st

Star systems should feel like Hearthstone/MTG card packs, like FIFA/Madden packs. They should reward you with a "legendary" "item" if you "open" enough of them which in terms of SC means - some star systems when you visit them should literally make you go: "wow! what's that?!" and you sit there and just enjoy the beauty of the unknown for a few seconds before you venture to scan/interact with it. It could be a purple asteroid ring around a banal gas giant or two different size

1. Asteroid fields that I have to navigate through to reach interior planets 2. Huge asteroids with elliptical orbits to scan, land and explore 3. Binary star systems (must be rare and unique) 4. Planetary graveyards 5. Pulsars 6. Super novas 7. Space monsters (I'd take 5 unique ones over 50 recycled/procedurally generated). How cool would it be to

When I visit a system in SC2 I explore every single planet. Why? 'Cause you never know what secrets any planet can hold. Color coding or not makes zero difference in fun levels to me. It's fun to explore new places, period. It's fun to meet unexpected. Even if I knew that some planet is too hot to land on, I'd still go there even just to scan it. Is navigation tedious? Sure, but sometimes you meet aliens on your way, so the mechanic needs to be there. Ma
^ Does a $5m budget dictate indie-game status? Do you need $80m to make a full-price game? Maybe I don't know?
The reason I mentioned indie status of SC is that SD mentioned $30-40 price range for the game somewhere. That's high-end indie. Definitely not a "AAA" game status. I, personally wouldn't like meager 20hr gameplay for $60. Unless it's strictly main quest line time.

^ There's no point in revisiting planets for resources when you can just go to a new planet and pick up the same shizz. It's not like you'll only have 120 planets to visit. ;) What advanced scanning tech can solve is exploiting mineral rich locations to get rich fast at the game start and buy all the upgrades at once (my favorite thing to do when replaying SC2 XD). It might be fun for somebody, but it'll definitely kill sense of accomplishment and progression for me ri

I insist on developing a mechanic where you don't have to pause or come to stop to scan a planet. A planet proximity auto-scan feature. Make the planet visit seamless. Judging from the presented planet exploration concept art pictures it seems very likely that landing can be easily made like so: 1. Top-down view of system exploration 2. Approaching a planet triggers zoom into it (your ship stays the same size)</

I completely agree and urge writers and quest line developers to challenge themselves to do it. This is year 2016. The time of shallow story-lines and fetch quests is over. If this SC is striving to be better than SC2 then it's not the graphics, not the music, and not the aliens that can do it, but a massively different story-line play-styles. How about this random event: 1. You're flying through space. 2. Radar blinks and there's another ship flying through. 3. You decide to engage and it turns out to be a lone Kzer-Za dreadnought. 4. First thing you notice when in battle is that your enemy isn't engaging and isn't fleeing. Also, his ship is beat up and looks like it's about to explode. 5. You decide to withdraw your weapons and just come closer. 6. Enemy ship doe

^ Dang, you're right. SC2 does have inertia in combat even though it looks and feels very arcade'y... The distinctions are simple - you have to hold thrust button to go in arcade style. As soon as you release it the "assisted breaking" kicks in and stops your ship. Realistic = inertia, gravity etc. Exactly like you described. You can vote now. ;)
It shouldn't a stupid random thing that spoils the game like just before an important space battle you get a random event saying that your crew got infected with the space flu and you attack strength has been reduced by 10%..... those kind of events are the dumbest events I have ever seen.... Master of Orion had too much of those stupid random events (space flu just a made up example of a random event). Good thing that you could choose the
