As I stated elsewhere, Escalation is much more refined, fluid and joy to play. There should be no question about it. Escalation is the way to go. The free keys should make it apparent that nearly everybody prefers Escalation. The key giveaway action is honorable I would like to point out. You noticed that your decision p###ed off a lot of people so you did something about it. Great job. By the way I don't agree that Ashes can run on a potato if DX 12 is at work. I wouldn't say

So what's happening? This problem is really annoying because the Mastermind after having it's initial drone loadout destroyed becomes really useless. It seems it produces some drones but stops doing so after a short time.

I think you are doing a great job! I somehow lost my interest in Ashes somewhere during the beta/ea. It did not really take a hold of me. When Escalation came I thought it wouldn't change much. BUT: It did! It's really what FA did for SupCom back in the days. I can not really put my finger on it but it is a much more enjoyable, fluid and refined experience than Ashes. With the free keys you are about to give to early access people there is nothing anybody can complain about. Escalatio

It seems that drones of the Substrate loose connection to the host units (Mastermind, Drone Hive). They just stay and fly circles in a place instead of following their host which moved on. That's just happening from time to time. Also, it seems that new drones are not produced (Drone Hive) from time to time although their host still has energy. So the Drone Hive unit becomes pretty useless.

It's strange, sometimes I have to press space and middle mouse button in order to have full view control sometimes not. It definitely changes later in the game. Can't change view but zoom and rotate.

Did anybody else experience this (?): in the beginning of a game you can pan the view completely free, all directions (even underground) by pressing the middle mouse button and moving the mouse. Later on in the game pressing the middle mouse button only turns the view in one dimension.

To cancel units in production you have to right click on the units in the production queue above the picture of the factory and to the left of the minimap.

16 Replies 83,042 Views

The minimap doesn't really show you were your units are. Only the numbered battlegroups and, of course, sectors can be identified. Finding units is a pain in the *** overall. The unit bar on the left doesn't help at all. It's too hard to recognize units. Generally speaking, keeping an overview where your units are and what kind of units you acutally look at or what units your battlegourp contains is nearly impossible. Klicking for movement orders often doesn't work. Ge

Finally! An update of the Founders' Vault! That's what I was talking about. Good work! I was just about to get mad because I thought there still wasn't anything new but decided to check the FV first. And I was rewarded :-)

I guess you have to test the game playing as a developer :-) It won't take too long until it's our turn I think. We'll see. As long as informations keep coming I am fine.

That's all I want! Some news about what's going on. Cool to hear what you are working on. Have those 5 lines really taken so much time and effort? Do that regurlarly so that people don't get frustrated after cheching by day after day without anything new from you developers. Would be very welcome!

@Frogboy: you got me wrong. I thought about an in depth look at each unit. But it doesn't matter. That was just a suggestion. I would just like to see more happening on this page. ASADDF's idea is not so bad either. Just some new stuff regularly.

28 Replies 166,012 Views

If you asked me, I just would like to see more on Ashes in general. Nothing specific. But since you asked I would suggest presenting the units, one per week maybe. Give one or two screenshots and some concept art. Describe the idea behind the unit, what it's role is and what it can do (weapons, armor, speed, any special abilities; just roughly)

Would it mean too much of an effort to give this site more updates from part of the developers? The dev team is not too big if I am right, so this could be unfeasable but I stop by every day, sometimes more often, and it seems that time is standing still. Nothing much happening in the vault either. I have to admit that I sport a rather impatient kind of mindset and maybe it's too early in the developing stage to present new stuff frequently but maybe there is a solution that is good for e

Very nice article. Sounds ALL very promising! You got me exited about what the final visual fidelity will be like. The article generates high expectations. I also like the new vault content. I have a hard time waiting for updates but I like what you put in there. You generate a feeling that makes me believe that you are putting together something really cool. Keep the great work going!

Just stopping by to say, again, that I liked everything you told us about the game so far, Frogboy. I am eager now to get more info on units.

@Ashbery76 Did you read the Lore pitch in the vault? A very interesting setting is presented there. It has a sad undertone, though, because of the implications of the bad sides of human charakter traits. I really like the background storry. And I really hope that Haalee will be able to confine the destructive, greedy, self-centered and compassionless human race!

@ RedDwarf I see your point. I also think it's sad for those who can't afford the ticket. Maybe Stardock/Oxide needs some money right now. All they can do is selling the game in advance. To make that more interesting and let you have something for the time until release they give you a sneak peek. If they made the vault accessible to everybody there would be much less people willing to pay for the game in advance. So, they need the money to develop the game. We want them to cr

I just thought about shields and sins of a solar empire mentioned in the same post. I hope you won't incorporate the shield mitigation mechanism of Sins into Ashes. I don't know if I am the only one who hated that mechanism. It took away an important aspect of battle control from me: focus firing. Of course it did not take away this aspect completely but cut it decisively. This made battles feel sour for me from some point and, in fact, made me turn my back on sins. Everything else wa

Red Dwarf, if you see it this way, our whole society has to be changed. You have to pay for things you would like to have. If I want to have a car, I have to pay for it. If I want to have something to eat I have to pay for it. If you like to have the album of a musician you have to pay for it. In this case I would like to have early access to the game so I have to pay for it. I also want to support the development of the game. In fact, that's the main reason why I spent money on it. And t

I like the factions' different approach on protection (shields vs. armor). It's very important to have very different factions. Makes ballancing harder but playing more fun. The armor mechanics seem realistic and cool. Using this as a mechanic against the spamming of chep units is a good idea in my opinion. Somewhere you were talking about map sizes. That sounds very promising, too! Huge maps are cool! It's cool though, to have some small maps for hot quickie skirmishes, t

Very nice and cool new stuff. I am a little confused atm which pcitures show the most actual versions of units, though. I like the vip-feeling it generates having access to the vault. It's tough to hold it back from friends but I will hold tight and rather persuade them to buy the Founder's Edition. That helps all parties the most. I also like the size comparisons in the post human faction's lineup. Units as big as battleships sound cool. Three tiers of uni
