If they could then develop the ability for players to host a virtual server from their own pc Hamachi is one of those virtual servers and i believe SINS games already running on it
Great point--didn't think of that at all. Genius! I always hate when a game server site pulls the plug and you are left with no options.
SemazRalan on these forums has done a ton of work with Galaxy Forge and templates. Anyone who wants to know all about GF should ask him.
Here's hoping he and others will jump in on it. I have some of the patched ones for mods but the whole GF template/experience could use a serious kick in the arse towards usability.

It's a shame you cant stack colonist abilities to create a higher start population on colonization. That would help a lot. This isn't possible in any way is it? FYI--good job on this post. One of the clearest, most thorough and helpful ones here. Worth reviving.

I don't know if the parameter works but the location of it determines whether or not it breaks the map on game load. The examples I have are "broken"--don't work. When I copy the format of previous maps to use in a new map, the map doesn't load on game start and the game dumps. It isn't a template just one of the planet parameters and I do most of the editing in notepad and always finalize a map in it. I have taken the entry from an older map and duplicated it in my

I have some old style template examples with the starting race for the planet shown but these templates don't work in the current Sins versions. Is this still a valid value? I'd like to utilize it so can someone append an example here of a proper planet template with it if it's functional? Thanks in advance.

The idea is that a person her age should know how a fourteen year old is and how difficult it is for them to resist that sort of offer and not to tap into it for twisted self-gratification. The blame isn't on the fourteen year old (though you are right in that he is reponsible for his own decisions) but it is on the woman for the choice she made from a position of maturity--a choice most fourteen year olds aren't fuilly equipped to make. So his first "experience" is with a woman with ps

Very cool sir. regarding GF, I am not a programmer but whatever engine drives the graphics for it is horrible. When you zoom in really close to stars for precise planet placement--and especially on large maps--the cpu cycles the thing uses are ridculous. Mainly though, from my own experience, the various versions and betas introduced small changes to formatting in the galaxy files and over time there are enough variations to make proper template scripting a problem.

I think the modding community is significantly smaller than the visible player/poster base and something else pertinent may be that you posted during the great server reset and crash. There are a lot of pretty teeny (and very trivial) posts now and then that push new threads down and I have found it takes awhile to get the knowlegeable base into a conversation sometimes. Bump this now and then as it is hands down the best converter for the game. It is certainly bump w

Some good points in the above reply. It's clear that by design Sins acomodates long, slow strategy boardgame playing styles as well as fast arcade/first shooter type engagements. Most players will prefer one over the other in these cases--so we won't all be on the same page as to how everything should be. The lack of a campaign and deep back story that is played out means its entirely up to an individual player's imagination to create an immersive environme

I saw the sales figures for vanilla Sins at one time and they were extremely good--its also obvious when you look at those figures that most people weren't playing it online (from the numbers given here). You have two games in one...a solitaire play game and an online game. People buy it for different resons. I really think Sins is a succesful hybrid. Digital Anvil's Freelancer "died" (killed by Microsoft actually) and the server was taken down but gue

Only by manually selecting destination points to coax it the way you want to go. Not what you want I am sure but the only way. If you have noticed, ships move with inertia--they start out slow and build up speed--often if you target or order a move to a different point you can stop the forward motion and start another slow turn/acceleration. It helps some. Basically it's pretty similar to parallel parking a car

Just my two cents but Diplomacy is by far an improvement to the game--especially if they have the desync issue resolved and do a few tweaks to reduce lags and glitches which I think they are working on. I'll agree with Sanchez--a lot of people have never hit the Ironclad option. I didn't play online until nearly a month after I got the game. More posts on the forums about strategy and actual play, hints and tips, modding advice and the like will do a lot more to invi
I think you just had a bad experience. And you probably did the right thing by throwing up your hands and saying, "GG, you win," and just leaving.
Yep--bad luck was all. I really don't mind losing. it doesn't bother me a bit. There is an open source game I was somewhat "famous" in because I would repeately go head to head with the best when I first began and routinely would get slaught

Three minutes isn't much time to communicate with four other new players who don't know each other while simultaneously defending your world from a coordinated attack by five players who are dumping all their resources to a player two jumps from you. I didn't even get scouted--the fleet just sailed straight in. I didn't even have time to finish upgrading planetary infrastructure before the first wave hit. It was my first 5v5 game. If I had players reinforcin
I also don't understand how a game can only thrity minutes old and some player rolls into my area and already has several level 7 capitol ships and a fleet that is twice the size of mine. With a solar system isn't that big and I've colonized as much as I could without over stretching myself.. I just didn't jump of the turnip truck to start playing, but it did seem pretty fishy. And when I looked at the

I have a proposal for pirates that might help with the lag issues (maybe) and possibly add to the fun. If anyone was a fan of Keith Laumer's Bolo science fiction books (or Steve Jackson Games Ogre which was based on it) how about considering making the pirate bases as follows: Give them lots of defense guns and possibly mines and hangars at their outposts but instead of giving them ever increasing swarms of ever more powerful ships...give them a single ship, an

Before you could ignore the AI with little consequence--now it at least has to be watched. The best thing with Diplomacy so far for me is the AI improvement. I am also finding (over the long haul) that the diplomatic possibilities are very subtle and layered. really well done but take awhile to be understood and seen. The more you play, the more you see the versatility.

You could have a virus or a corrupted windows or adobe update but a real likely culprit though is that your hard drive is over 90% full...especially if you are running windows. if you can delete some files (I don't know your hard drive size) it may fix the issue. If you are having obvious malware symptoms on a big scale it can also make these issues.

I just pretend I am sending them facebook invites with big smiley faces and sound effects. When the planet is conquered its like they have accepted my freind invitation. All is full of love. I also don't destroy their ships but rather make mine so appealing with a pyrotechnic display that they scuttle theirs so they can hang out onboard with me on my cool ship. We're all mates now. How did I miss this thread before? It's the best one I have read here yet!

I really think there is a need for player websites promoting specific maps, mods and game styles would help. Sort of "communities within the community". On the other hand, when I log onto smurfville--I mean ICO--I leave immediately when I see: random Map, 5v5, all settings fast.

The simple solution is to host your own game with a password and invite/accept only those whom you wish to play with. that's why the feature is there. And smurfs are yotz's...I agree.
