You are not thinking in the proper context, the games you mentioned are in their own separate category for which there are neither standards or expectations in the animation/graphics department. They are completely flattened in terms of all the visual elements and are entirely symbolic. So when you have just one element that tries to be visually appealing(such is the case with Elemental) it inherently drags to surface other expectations and higher standards as a whole. <

This video demonstrates why animation is more important than graphics and why it makes or breaks the game if animation is not fluid and detailed. And the ones that don't even have it are greatly impoverished. Just imagine Gyromancer with detailed animations of all creatures and their attacks instead of static pictures.
