I think it's the asteroids. It's not a very obvious aspect of the game, yet it's so crucial for production.

I was getting the same thing. CTD when starting a new map. For me, it was the Mu'Kay. Once I removed them, I was able to start the game without crashing.
Glad your enjoying it better now! Stellaris is RTS not 4x, you can not compare these 2 games even though everyone seems to just because they are both space themed.
I have to disagree with this statement. Stellaris surely IS a 4x. You explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate. What it is not is a TBS, like GC III.
I don't think there's anything new. You just bought the soundtrack so you are allowed to listen to the music outside of the game (a lot of other games do this as well). Click on Library in Steam and get the drop down, and select Music, then you should see GC III soundtrack in the list.
This still gets me every time. It's so annoying. It wouldn't be quite as annoying if you could just escape out of the new game, but you have to go through all the dialog before you can do that. Makes me want to throw my monitor against the wall heh. There are lots of places in the game you can't just immediately pause, and this gets very aggravating. We're not all 12 years old with limitless amounts of time on our hands :).
There's also a component you can get for your lander to add jumping. I find with jumping, and boost, it makes it fairly easy to get around. Except for those damned trees. Stop me in my tracks all the time.
I swear, I have had the worst luck with PPAs. Everytime I try to use one, it just makes my system more unstable. I tried installing that driver, but Steam wouldn't even open for me. So I rolled back to the 390 driver. All I had to do to get it to work was to Enable Steam Play for all titles in the settings area.
Quoting impinc, reply 1 I'm not sure where you got that version of the driver, unless you're from the future. The latest nvidia driver is 390.87 which came out on August 27. I just checked again. Am I giving the wrong number? Here is the input/output:
Actually, I got it to run. Turns out, Proton doesn't work for GalCiv3 in Linux Mint. Once I turned that off, and used Steam Play for Linux, the game worked. It's pretty damn stable, at least from what I remember Wine being like. However, there are a couple of things that are annoying. The shipyard screen is terribly slow. The planet screen gets slow after a while as well. However, turn times seem to be faster. Usually the graphical stuff is slower (zooming in/out, dragging the screen
So far, I haven't had luck getting it to run on Linux Mint. It installs, but then when I try to run it, it does something for a while (I see the process), but after about 2 minutes, it just dies (no indication of it either).
Other than that it has been flawless. I use a Nvidia GTX 750 Ti rev. A2 with the 396.51 Nvidia Driver. It happened to me as well, but it's not a game ender for me. I simply backed out of the trade, and was able to continue playing (after reloading).
I can verify this bug as well. It's simple to replicate. Get the hero, unequip his crossbow. You then can't equip ANY weapon on him anymore, including his original crossbow.
It doesn't really matter as far as I know. Only thing I can think of, is that it all depends on the motherboard you get, and only if you plan on running more than 1 video card. If you get a MB with crossfire, then go AMD. If it has SLI, then go Nvidia. I admit, I'm not one who knows the best video cards out there, as I usually am 5-10 years behind (it's always the thing that gets left out of an upgrade for me). The motherboard I got was an Asus M5A97 Pro 2.0
Don't let the Intel boys scare you. I've always run AMD, and never had a problem. I just upgraded to the 4Gz 8 core chip myself, and it works great. For gaming, get a good video card. That makes the bigger difference in playing games nowadays anyways. One thing I would suggest though, is to get a good aftermarket cooler. I got the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Quite a large one (only has maybe a half a centimeter of clearance with the
