Late game pirates suck... I did a marathon game too, just to see how bad they got. That was insane. One thing I noticed I didn't see mentioned here is, the pirates can shoot 360 degrees. while my ships are turning to fire the pirates are going after whatever they want and firing 100% of the time. Pirates flying through a planet on route to another planet will annihilate stuff along the way. Don't own the planet that is the next in line to their ex
