it was a jokey comment. just saying there's kinda no point deciding whether to go intel/amd based on security... as they will all eventually be found to be crap. ... what do you mean peeling banana.. just wait for the banana skin wedge craze.
alaknebs
yay.. amd bug disclosed. hide your motherboards https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/01/06/amd_cpu_psp_flaw/
why didn't it come out years ago... because the researchers only found the hole last year. XD where did you read intel knowing about this for years? people are only talking about its ceo potentially getting done for insider trading for selling stocks last year and not the other years so far. why did everyone keep silent? because you don't really talk about holes you can't fix unless you want attacks out there months before you've got your fixes out. seriously, it's not like linux has
someone did speculate since some drm/anti cheat have a lot to do with virtual machines and what not, they (and thus the games with them) get bogged down... who knows.
you'll have to wait years i imagine for proper hardware fix. as for chromebook... (or chromeos) check https://support.google.com/faqs/answer/7622138#chromeos
heh. more vulnerabilities. the other one (spectre) affects amd too. though... the article is kinda confusing as it says amd is not vulnerable to meltdown which they label as variant 1 and 2, but then says amd is practically immune to 2 but will have to wait for microcode for variant 1 or recompile software with countermeasures. ok.. the article got it mixed up.. variants 1 and 2 are spectre and meltdown is 3. hence amd immune for 3 but iffy on 1 and 2. https://www.theregister.
supposedly it depends on what you are running. games are not affected that much... it's said. i suppose of more interest is what intel is doing to fix this for future architectures.. and which ones will get the fix. too late for anything due in the next year or 2?
did you hear about an intel flaw that'll supposedly make all intel cpu from the last 10 years or so 5-30% slower when fixed in os XD (well.. ok.. more like the fix will slow down the os) https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/01/02/intel_cpu_design_flaw/ https://hothardware.com/news/intel-cpu-bug-kernel-memory-isolation-linux-windows-macos heck.. i had to flash my bios last month to get the ime fix.. though i suppose you could call that an upside because i hadn't flashed t
guess that's another thing ms nabbed off you? they call theirs "sets".
issue with gpu drivers? is browser using hardware acceleration? (i don't know the fix.. but those could be the areas to look at)
whereas i've been wondering why ssd/hdd cables (power and sata) are so weirdly spaced. or at least i did every time i add a new drive or move them to a new machine, etc. absolutely no idea how to make the wires reach the ssd holder thing on the back of the mb plate as well as all the other drives. so i gave up and just stack them all in the drive cage rack thingy a couple of years back when i got the current one.
i believe for chrome at least there are some anti-anti-adblocker extensions. ubo has some list that work with those things. no idea how well they work as i can't be bothered to install yet another thing.
season 1 hasn't ended. it's just the usual midseason break. (will return in jan as you said)
Here: (Admiral and Capt. Lorca having a holographic chat on board)
it wasn't a holo meeting. they met face to face somewhere off the ship. the only question is why he had to take the shuttle to wherever that was instead of taking discovery there directly and beamed aboard. or why that shuttle journey was long enough for him to be ambushed.
off screen?
it just means no one has said anything about other security suite being exploited for similar effect. yet. as for israel, they were hacking kaspersky and found someone else doing the same thing. bet they are real happy someone decided to tell the whole world about it, quite simply because kaspersky was founded by a russian. did us gov ban symantec over cert failures? nevermind the big contract just given out to equifax despite security failings.
the problem is the gfx drivers. intel licensed vid tech from imagination technologies. https://arstechnica.co.uk/gadgets/2017/07/clover-trail-systems-wont-get-windows-10-creators-update-ever/
win 10 won't be a monthly subscription... for home users.. but it'll suck if you are on seriously low end hardware as they'll probably not be supported at some point. (like some right now) https://arstechnica.co.uk/information-technology/2017/07/windows-10-support-device-lifetime/ http://wccftech.com/microsoft-ends-windows-10-support-intel/ shouldn't think it'll affect mainstream desktop users any time soon

what's that got to do with anything? they changed prices everywhere pretty much. and offer is for just about any currency. a lot of complaints are about european prices
is ryzen really horrible or is it just a shade off the pace? everything i read points to the latter. and does brad actually game (any game) at 4k with that 4k screen? i have a 4k screen (39~40".. but i sit a meter away XD and it's only va) but don't actually game at 4k, not least because everything will normally be too small and i don't really want to stress the 970... though i suppose i could try setting it to 4k but turn most of the effects stuff off for less stress?
how big is that 4k though... and... you sure it's not a typo and you meant to type 8k instead? XD can't imagine a 8k desktop on a tiny 32" text must be tiny...
like throwing stuff?
The transport is no longer consumed. That means, in theory, a single transport could conquer an entire civilization. This vastly reduces the late-game grind of conquering (and to be honest, we should have thought of this 10 years ago).
or just get rid of transport altogether. forgot which game it was from (stellaris?), but basically troops are its own organic transport.. on planet they are troops, once in orbit they are transport ships.
the block has supposedly already kicked in this month. according to the ars link i posted.
