I wound up going into view under Folder Options and got it turned off on the start menu and desktop anyway. Tweak UI or the manual registry hack don't seem to be working for the taskbar items but that is ok. I have gotten rid of 85% of them. Thanks for your help. I was terribly sick yesterday and couldn't remember how it was done. Better now.

I got it fixed! Well most of it anyway. Just had to let you know where it was. It was located in control panel/folder options/view/show popup description. It fixed about 85% of the darn things anyway. Thanks to all for your input and help. Tranquility has returned......

Clarification, I am running Win XP PRO and have Tweak UI (New Version) installed. The remove balloon tips doesn't work. I am heading out to try Phydeaux_3's suggestion.

Could it be something with Window Blinds or my skins? There is no fix for it in those settings either. Even tried settings with Win classic bars. No go. This is turning into a long and fruitless day.........

I have Tewak-UI for XP PRO and there is no such control. Is this the same program you are talking about? I visited TweakXP.com and it seemed to be just a site with tweaking tips, none of which fixed my delima.

I know that this sounds stupid, but I have been trying to find the switch to turn off the little shortcut arrow on my desktop icons. I had it set before but it reset when I changed my icons. I cannot find the setting anywhere!? HEP
