The first payment is made a soon as you make the agreement, thus the first turn of the duration has already passed.
Except that the next month's payment is not deducted. You get credit from the AI for paying 2X, buy you only pay X. I tested it myself.

I don't think you ever used that button. Unless I've been blind for the past two months, that particular button is one of the new expansion buttons in the game quasi-accidentally.

If 7MB is causing you to groan, you're going to hate it when the expansion pack comes out (free, but only available by download). But, yes, if you download the available standalone it comes with all of the bonus pack material integrated. If you use Stardock Central you do have the option of just downloading the core game updates (about 2MB) but, really, just grin and bear it. I use to download 500MB demos over dialup (much to my wife's horror LOL ), it was painful but you do what you g

Airwreck, no, you're not missing anything here. For some inconceivable reason, Stardock made it impossible to tell what TGs you have, and rather awkward to see what techs you have. These are some of the things I hope to see fixed in the UI improvments of the expansion.
Will...with the success of GalCiv, i doubt it if the publishers will alow those who has access to drengin.net to have it for free
Well, that would be both parties shooting themselves in the foot deliberately. Besides, you misunderstand Drengin.net if you think you get anything free . You pay a fixed cost per year regardless of what does or doesn't come out. Much like their model for OD, you are largely paying for support as opposed to new products. Compare

I find the GalCiv UI passable, but agree with every one of the above specific criticisms. I think, though, at this point this issue has been pretty thoroughly beaten and whipped and Stardock has heard the criticisms. The best time for them to implement them will be with the relative total rebuild for the expansion. I'll wait until post expansion before I let this get on my nerves again.

The only big problem I have with the Ranger is due to its position on the tech tree, by the time I can build them, I've got a fleet of Dreads. They are not that much better than Dreads, and Avatars are just a hop, skip, and a jump from Rangers which are much better than Dreads. End result is that I find their role in the game extremely limited.
Wouldn't it have been better if the money went back in the bank, simply?
That's debatable. "Coherent" does not necessarily mean a good game relative to the AI. If there's an option to effectively have a defacto per planet spending selector, you've got to make sure the AI handles it properly because what is obvious or coherent to you is nothing more than a set of algorithms to the AI. Get it wrong and what you wind up with is an even worse situation than now in re

It was beaten to unrecongizable pulp, then jumped upon until only a stain remained :) The thing to keep in mind is that while we may waste the bcs, the AI just keeps on building things that don't do it much good and then suck away even more bcs for maintenance. In terms of strategic value, the issue of waste is largely cosmetic, i.e. it bothers us as strat gamers because we dislike the idea that we're spending money on nothing, but on the other hand, since everyone plays by this system,

Stability wise seems very good; I've had a single, non-repeatable CTD that I can think of (well, barring the easily repeatable 'click the expansion button ones'). Overall, I'm very pleased with it. I would say that minors are almost too easy to 'exploit', but they run out of cash soon enough and then you take their lands. So I'm not sure if it's imbalanced, or just an abstract concept of a resource you can find on the map. I leave that for you to decide. I would not want to return to th

If you buy this game 2nd hand you need to find out a few details: If the player never registered for a Stardock.net account, the Metaverse, or downloaded any patches through Stardock Central or even standalones, then you're fine, the serial number isn't associated anywhere with personal ID. However, if the original buyer did any of those things then you need to get the email address he used and password if applicable. In this case you need to change the user information
It is SO not obvious that ships heal up to the newer tech automatically without the need to send them manually to a shipyard that I thought the damage these ships display was from a battle that I missed. As Crackles says in his post below, it is basically a shame that players are put in the position of having to figure out all the mechanics of the game on their own, especially if such mechanics are not self-evident or commonsensical...
Just how many strategy games, partic

One of the things that I find most bizarre about this issue is the hypocrisy from Stardock. We get told to stop taking the metaverse so seriously and just play/enjoy the game. We get told that they won't do the recalc because it's not right to give these higher scores to older, allegedly easier games. So, which is it? Is the metaverse supposed to just be a fun "competition", in which case, hey, do the recalc because it keeps people on the same footing. Or is the metave

PBP, you can always upgrade a game once until they freeze the version from my experience. Early on, I often wound up resubmitting when I discovered that choosing a different victory netted me a higher score. When I was doing the resubmit, I tried every game I still had for whatever reason. A 1.035 that I hadn't already submitted more than once was among the 1.05 recalcs I got. OTOH, my 1.031 that I had was not accepted (but I may have already submitted that game more than once so it might even b

When you see the guy who winds up in the upper ranks with some relatively low diff games there's some things you need to think about before breaking out the pitchforks and torches for the devs. While I'm sure it's conceivable that somewhere out in the world there is someone sad enough to try and dominate the metaverse by submitting a slew of low difficulty games, I assume that most of these people are some new players who've been learning the ropes and finally got some games they're proud to sub

I upgraded every game I had as well. I had hoped that doing such a thing would highlight why all scores should get recalculated every time they alter the scoring formula (I'm not complaining that it added several thousand to my score in the process :) ). Their resistance to doing this puzzles me, but the bottom line is that I'll be holding onto my victories from this point out in case such a situation arises in the future. It's just very weird that Stardock says, "No, we're

The perception of being drug down is much worse than the reality in my opinion. Due to resubmitting games I had on my HD, I've got 9 1.05 scores, if that was all I had, I would have 23.6K for my score. With the 15 older games, some of which are, shudder, only three digits, my score is 21.4K. So, for all the wailing and gnashing that's been going on, I'm being drug down a whole 2000 points by my older scores. I would prefer it if Brad would agree to recalculate all scores on the metavers

Dude, you are now officially in the f***tard dictionary. For someone who claims to have a 144 IQ, you clearly have no concept how to use it. It doesn't take much in the brains dept. to see the convenience and gameplay benefits of not having to manually retrofit *all* of your ships just so a dumbass like yourself can avoid paying the few BCs maintenance it costs per foundry. How does it not occur it to you that the very costs and maintenance of these projects have the b
