I tested it, yes just zooming on the planet it doesn't play. Putting the cursor next to the planet and zooming closer it plays. As a side note the things zooming around the planet are miniatures of all of the cap ships
Still though, it isn't playing properly. It needs some kind of fix!
Zvarringly
I believe the reason for this issue is that they didn't consider the reduced camera zoom when making the game. The sound is still played only at a certain distance from the planet's surface...this distance is however not possible to reach unless you target some object other than the planet itself.
A lot of times I get a freeze, it was because of the ambient planet sounds file. I forget the exact error it shows but I could push skip instead of it crashing while SHOWERRORS TRUE is set. Maybe they're trying to fix it, as I have seen others report it in all of the trinity games as well.
I've never had my game freeze nor did I ever get an error message. I simply cannot hear the sound! [e digicons]
When you got real close to a planet in Trinity there would always be this swooshing sound from the ships that go about the surfaces of the planets. However, these sounds are not in rebellion. Well, they are, but the "range" from which you can hear them is the same while the maximum zoom level is now smaller. Let me try to explain: if I target my capital and zoom towards it, I will never hear this sound. If I however target an orbiting structure and pan the camera INTO the planet's atmosph
Game crashing aside, when I used to zoom in on a fighter and follow it around, it got a much grander scale of the ships and universe around me.
I concur, the awesome scale of the capital ships will be lost on rebellion with the current camera settings. Part of the majesty of the game has regrettably been removed, even if the developers themselves fails to see this. May be this must be to keep the game from crashing, thoug
This is done intentionally to better represent scale and to help with texture memory use (i.e., prevent the game from crashing).
Thank you very much for the response, I guess I'll have to deal with the current settings then. [e digicons]:([/e]
Well, hopefully they'll read this post and just fix the issue. Shouldn't be that big of a problem...though the question is why they decided to reduce the maximum zoom-level at all. Gets me.
As I played the beta yesterday, I noticed that it isn't possible to zoom towards ships, or planets as much as you were able to in Trinity. Why is this? Why would you disable some feature such as this? I always enjoyed the details of the ships and I was quite often at the maximum zoom-level. Will the camera stay 'locked' in the final version of the game as well or is this something that'll be fixed eventually? [e digicons]:\[/e]
I still hear the sound you mentioned. Strange...
This is indeed a most weird bug. I do not hear the sound no matter the zoom level, and it doesn't matter which save I'm currently playing. Hopefully it's something that will be fixed for launch... [e digicons]:\[/e]
I noticed a very minor bug whilst playing the beta last night. When you zoom towards a planet which has ships going about its surface there is usually (in trinity at least) a sound effect for these ships. In rebellion however, it does not exist. This is a minor annoyance but I found it to be a quite snug feature in Trinity. Not sure if the removal of this sound is intentional though. [e digicons]:|[/e] Edit: Also, not sure if I should've made a new thread about this
