I don't completely understand why people have such morale problems. I have entertainment centers, a few key techs, some approval relics. I work my way up to 100+ planets. I take a lot of benevolent ideology choices because I am just that kind of person, and those choices have some approval bonuses. My initial colonization rush puts a severe strain on that, but it all works out. As to whether you can go ahead and play with 0% happy people. No, I can

The description for Ancient says 10% for each relic. What I observe is 10% per each constructor module attached to the relic. That's up to 50% per planet per relic. I also observe 1 research point per Ascension Crystal is 1 research per Ascension Crystal constructor module. The overall effect is staggering. I am playing on gigantic maps and I can get gigantic research on the crummiest of planets. One crystal is 5 points. One
On Normal, the AI still experiences fog of war.
I think starvation should have more overall consequences. The population loss is almost minimum. I would increase the population loss and severely affect happiness, to the point of affecting production. Planet -wide starvation is a serious condition. It needs to feel like one.
I click the scroll between planets, one step away and then right back. Also, if you move any items in the production list, it will update then.
I support the OP on this one. At the very least, it should be an option to enable. Quoting BuckGodot, reply 1 Not gonna happen, sorry... it is very rare for a turn based 4x game to allow it.
There are technologies that give percentage bonuses that multiply what your stadium supplies. There are approval Relics that supply multipliers. There are ideologies that provide bonuses or buildings that affect approval. If you are going for that big an empire, you are going to need all of those. If I get a bunch of those then I find rush buying a single entertainment center on a new colony makes a big difference for that new colony.
If you hate dealing with lots of colonies, why do you play large/abundant maps?
For me, and many others, large maps are the primary attraction of GalCiv. There are a profusion of issues being raised in this thread. This one is the lack of efficient empire management tools. GC2 had such tools in place. They weren't perfect, but they helped a lot. I like the shape and feel of the
No, no, no, no, no. Don't compliment them! If you do that, they'll get lazy. They're SMART people, and if you compliment smart people, they get LAZY. I KNOW from experience. They probably know it too.
Look, be as critical as you like, but please do not insult the developers, not even in jest. They are not lazy. I do not know what your experien
This is why I bought the game. Thanks. I am playing Gigantic, Abundant everything, Tight Clusters, Tough, 5 random opponents. My observation is that the AI does not handle large voids well. My level of helpful suggestion is to encourage them to chase relics and resources a little more and see if that helps them build stepping stones of influence. To my understanding, that kind of behavior can get some insects across large obstacles. Is that the type of fe
The AI in GC2 was very good. The only AI I consider better is Civ4BTS Better AI. That provided a first class playing experience for a wide range of skill levels. It is the response to the range of skill levels that impresses me. In GC2, that seemed to come from Brads avoidance of scripted behavior, which was revolutionary for its time and still not truly duplicated. There are some justifiably high expectations of any AI that will claim to be a worthwhile successor.&nbs
I want Imperial Time Span 535C7: Imperial Time Unit F9: Imperial Short Span 24. If you are going to go for meaningless Sci Fi terms, why not go all the way? :)
All I want is modules in my military base that project a zone of extra heal. I would build and protect military starbases if they did that. I would probably find ways to use the other modules since the starbases were there as ship hospitals.
Back in the days of the Alpha I made a tounge-in-cheek post about not being allowed to have fun with the ship designer. I showed off a few of my clever animation tricks there and in the Post Your Ship Designs thread. If you haven't read that thread, do yourself a favor. Close this stuff and check out the amazing designs there. I am repeatedly more impressed by what goes on there. There is no way I can keep up with their talent, but tha
Can you win using any other traits? You could roll random dice and pick traits that way. Otherwise, you are letting yourself become a one trick pony. No chess master I know of would want that to happen to their game. See if there is something else you can break magnificently.
You have gotten much further on fleet design than I have. I will confess that in GC2 I put together fleets of the biggest ships I could build and just threw them at the enemy. GC3 is tempting me to actually design fleets and I am flailing to figure out what I am doing. Don't get me wrong. I love the how-does-this-work aspect of a new game. I am enjoying the heck out of the challenge. Any discussion this thread provokes will be helpful. I a
Congratulations, Stardock. You have created a game so flexible it has broken the definition of modding. It seems a strange thing to debate to me, but I can only see it getting worse when we are sharing ships, maps, and who know what else. I consider it a sign of the ongoing evolution of gaming in general and 4X in particular. Harnessing the creative energy of the gaming community has tremendous potential, especially if they find a way to deal with Internet chaos in des
Thanks guys, that's really kind of you to say. Cheers, -brad
It's not kind. It's accurate. When directed at some people, praise isn't flattery; it's truth.
What I'm saying is not how you attempt to frame it.
You are correct. It is much worse. You have made it a point to interupt several threads with you strident complaints that do come off as saying the game is broken. When you get confronted about the way you presented possibly valid complaints, you responded with even less courteous language. Then you respond with commenn
I expect that when Steam integration gets in place and we can share files, there will be a flood of factions to play with. This should end up as the opposite issue, more factions than you can shake a stick at, even a Galactic sized one. I think the point has always been to give the community a sandbox to play in and share. The factions they supply were always offered as examples of the hundreds of opponents there will be. Right now, I have a batch of factions I downl

I have to agree that not being able to initiate diplomacy wiith a faction that has UT seems asymmetric. If you could initiate diplomacy, how would you know? Would you have to attempt diplomacy over and over until it worked one time? With each different faction? I would rather we train the AI to open diplomacy the first turn it could, either because it had the tech or, by trying over and over, found a partner that had the tech.
Still I'm inclined to believe players are better judges than gaming review outfits which are in business to make money protecting the game companies.
This player believes he is a better judge than either gaming review outfits or a flock on non-curated Internet user reviews. Especially the batch of Internet reviews. It becomes a platform for all the worst Internet behaviors. I
@BuckGodot Very nice work! The community supports the community and everybody gets to have fun. Thanks!
If you are connected to Steam at all, you are up to date. Unless it is released as an opt-in. The latest have not been opt-in patches. If you were not up to date, Steam would be nagging you about it. I don't know of a way to check directly, but I have not seen Steam fail to notice a game not updated and fix it immediately. It's the insistent nature of Steam.
