One more shot of the globe ship in battle. I know whoever did the shield algorithm couldn't have predicted this shape, but it comes out amazing. That is impressive. This is my current desktop. It is also pretty wild with the animated Spinner ships! <img src="http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/32987878438821830/949F1C33B84

It worked! My key problem was the spaces. Shoulda guessed. Tried quoting around the name, but that didn't work. So close. Anyway, now I can show off more battles!
I am trying to use the "spawn" command which I saw Paul using on the dev stream. It is asking for names for ship types and nothing I am trying is working. Anybody got any deeper insight into the command console? Anybody from Stardock want to give us Beta testers a couple tips here, please?
I already see a diplomatic factor that says it is a minus for having ships/starbases in their space without Open Borders. Is that what some people are asking for?
(anyone else notice how game graphics wow you in their teaser, before and up to launch, but over time seem clunkier and less impressive as we get used to them, they lose a 'wow' factor, and it doesn't help new games come to market in the meanwhile that have fancier engines?).
Not really, for me. I know that marketeers depend on that aggregate behavior, but whether it happens to an
I would echo Bamdorf's post, but Bamdorf already did that for me!
I agree with a lot of your points until you get to the whole "kid's game" thing, which comes off as highly condescending. As a lover and keeper of both games and kids, the phrase does not mean to me what it seems to mean to you. My kids played GalCiv when I got the game and thought it was cool. The physical sports are not just for adults! I see kids playing them all the time. I don't know where you get that people say video games are "Kids only". Th

Try cultivating an intellect instead of a chip on your shoulder, it's an absurdity to find offense over a comment you find absurd. Being on the wrong side of history is at least as bad as it is cracked up to be. It causes you to make stupid trolling comments that are part of the reason there is such heated over-reaction to gender issues in the first place.
To the contrary, I would advise fully exploiting every little thing you can find. And reporting it here. The devs will be closing those holes in the code as they go along. You can have fun doing ridiculous things while they are possible. We will all get a better game. Everybody wins!
Let me modify my question. Do you expect new games to always have higher levels of play that require computer players to receive special advantages? Essentially, that's what I'm trying to learn.
Well asked and deserves an answer... I don't think we are anywhere near achieving truly competitive AI on the level of game complexity we are talking about here. I think you are going

If you insist on using the emotional word "cheat" then I don't need to be a part of this conversation. It is deliberate red flag waving. You sound more than smart enough to know that. There is a handicap system coming. Yes. It is my understanding that you cannot create a truly intelligent AI without some long term experience with the game, after the mechanics have settled down, and after players have shown various strengths and weaknesses in the systems and
Impressive on several levels. Well done, and thank you.
Question: How much time does Brad have logged in on the AI so far?
When I pay more for any product or service than the next person, I don't blame the next person. I don't blame the seller. I accept the responsibility for my own decision and try to learn from my experience. Here's hoping that those who do not know about Steam sales can learn what they need to know in just one lesson, and thereby save themselves money in the future. Also, they won't feel the need to come dump their frustration on us. I sympathize
This reminds me of the machine with the rotating rings from Contact. I'll definitely do a ship based on that.
That's one of my favorite tricks with the new ship designer. I have posted about it on the forums. I did one based on Altarian parts called "Orbiter" in the first beta with shipyard and I had Contact in mind. So, I enjoyed your reference. And then I couldn't resist p
Then I probably have it wrong. I will try and check. Thanks. I learned something today.
An update: I have been working some more with the globe ship in battle. Occasionally, the cinematic view comes up with shots like this. Very dramatic. I am working on an animated version called "Spinner". Video to come if I can get FRAPS to cooperate. <img src="http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/32986915603093217/2A35F0FA75EE82787D
Some people seem to think they can't design ships. The wonderful examples here seem to scare them off. This is hopefully a reminder that simple can be epic. The ship has 6 identical parts and no animation tricks. All the weapons are shrunk and hidden in the rings. Laser beams originate mysteriously from secret places. It looks like silent menace when gliding across the map. (to me, anyway) I wish I could hide the cube starte
Developing strategies is shooting at a moving shape-shifting incorporeal target at best. I keep reminding myself not to pick up any habits or assumptions. A good deal of what is true now just won't be so whenever new mechanics or adjustments come along. From what I hear, that is likely to be true for years. I picked up GC2 long after it was finished . I have been playing it for a couple few years in my own semi-inept way. That was with a system in fin
I think you undervalue the colony capitol being +1 for everything but growth. That flexibility means a lot to me.
I would buy an expansion, definitely.
The present behavior does encourage you to zoom in and appreciate the artwork, and I do need good excuses to do that. I really like ships arriving at a rally point near a planet with starbases, f'rinstance. However, I envision bigger maps needing even more strategic viewing. I find myself wishing I could zoom out one more level. I am not sure how it would look visually, and I wouldn't want to break the present transitions between levels. Maybe I co
