Everyone, thanks for the info! Sole Soul your post is amazing but at first read it seemed mighty complex. You managed to explain to me the basic concepts though, which is more than I need to get started. I'm no stranger to strategy games but I'm no expert either. It's really weird that there isn't an actual base population growth number in DL - players shouldn't go to extremes in order to find some basic info. Thanks again people. Is there any way to see my population growth rate at DL? I can't seem to find it anywhere. edit: Also, any tips on how the sliders (miliatary, social, etc) work? I can't seem to pin down why my bc go up or down when I move some sliders.

I really appreciate all the answers people, I can't thank you enough. Are the tech tree problems mainly for TA (because I'll start playing this only after DL and DA and hopefully there will be a patch by then or mods)? Also, about the difficulty, should I be using bright or normal for my DL game? Should I tick "allow CPU to use intensive algoritmhs?)

Many thanks for the reply. Probably a silly question but shouldn't I be starting with DL, which is the first game? How can I pick to start only an expansion? Sorry if it's a completely dumb question but I'm not on my gaming pc now and I can't check.

Hello to all, I have decided to play this game. I have installed the ultimate edition and before I start have some questions. I hope you good people can help me out. First of all, I want to play a long, slow game. I don't care if it takes me days or weeks to complete I love sci-fi and I want a space epic. I have strategy experience but I'm not a great player. What galaxy settings would you propose or races? I want the A.I. to be tough but fair. In addition, I r
