i like the idea of Carrier type vessels.. Especially if you could customize the ships it could hold. to me the idea of very fast, short range fighters, that could be stationed at space stations, planets, or on carriers.. (carriers you would use to move them around the galaxy.. they could work different than normal ships perhaps... they could swarm any hostile target, making the target hit with less accuracy. The ships could also cause damage

I am playing a huge map, but planets/habital on sparce, with 9 races, and 8 minors. the idea is to make the galaxy sead up quickly, then fight over areas, and terra formed worlds. I cranked up colony ships, researched gravity, and translator, and by that time was able to trade for engine tech, as i launched my first Extra engine colony ship to venture down the one row of stars that was close to me.. Here is a screenie of me beating the drath, by a 1/2 week.. &nbsp

I think you are miss reading things.. early game, all the weapons you can add are only 1 damage. the 7 and 6, are either the cost, aka the build time, Or the amount of space it takes up. as you research techs, each level, lowers the space it takes up, and perhaps changes build time a little. So lasers 1-5, are exactly the same damage, only you can fit more of the 5's, than the 1's (they also can look different) then when you jump from

this has some spoilers to how the game works.. If you don't want to know them.. stop reading.. So later game i was doing really well, had my clusters, and holding my borders, along with enough army to fight off any attack. I was still in the small ship stage of the game, but they were upgraded, and pretty strong. now, new races started entering the picture.. Dread lords, showed, and would

I would just love for them to make an official sticky post with ideas.. Not to discuss them persay, But post them.. Just a simple place where everyone's idea's can be posted, and easily read through. then of course use the forums to discuss the merits of them and such. But i always think simple threads for devs to read, with many ideas, in an easy to read format is always a good thing. Anyways, thanks for the links to the o

Id like to close off boarders, But that does not mean a ship could not enter. It just means you are crossing into my space, and i am declaring any ship that does so, an act of war.. you could set it so you get a flag, that says a ship is in your territory (if detected) and the option to start a war. This could lead to a deeper diplomatic game. your territory is closed, even if not going to war, a species colonizes some planets in your

[quote who="Gaslov" reply="19" id="3406122"] Sigh. Why does every game have to be a role playing game? Isn't there anyone else who just wants a competitive turn based strategy game? I did not see any official suggestion post, so if there is please point me to it.. :) T here are a few things playing GCII, that bugged me, and i think a tweak could really make the game that much better. Planets, While there are lots of different types of planets, they really all boil down to being the same. they just have differen

what i was trying to say, was you can increase map size, and reduce the number of planets that can be colonized. In essence, it plays like a much smaller map.. Just more space to defend, and harder to spread out. It seems to slow down expansion. Especially if you play with clusters, as it can leave far stretches that you need to have lots of added life-support, and larger engines too. Making ships take 20-30 turns, just to get places leaves for more strats too. &nbs

i do move sliders a lot.. I never tax that high though, if i am trying to grow planets, which i usually am. I will turn on and off ship making, Or building construction from time to time. going full 100% research and setting all your planets to research can sometimes make sense, at least doing so has to me :) I typically don't have 100% approval, it is normally in the 70% range,, I tend to use High capacity transports t

i have never seen the game re-use my planets i have named, no clue why this would happen. I have never completed a game so far, i always seem to restart at some point.. so no clue if it is suppose to work that way or not. as for the main settings, I think default was something like common, stars, habitable planets, planets, Abundant for asteroids, and anomalies. tight clusters, tech rate normal, extreme planets occasional. Perhaps.. somethi

let me ask you a question.. (but disclaimer, all my experiences are with the Alterians, with bonuses to economy, luck, and a think a few points of research and diplomacy) are you researching any diplomacy techs early outside of universal translator? Are you building influence buildings? Even when terrans have claimed a few planets in my space, and in the middle of my space for example. they barely get any push outside of the single system they have taken. &n

Not really sure.. i did start the campaign the other day.... dread lords.. the first two missions were total cake/boring, the third, sends death troops that can wipe out your entire fleet in a few turns.. I restarted the game a bunch of times, trying different tactics, and after about 4 hours i completely gave up... was far more frustration than it was worth. I tired making ships around turn 100, after you get ships the attacks start.. I tried m

[quote who="Illauna" reply="6" id="3404400"] From the FAQ Q: What are the requirements to run Galactic Civilizations III?A:It will require a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or 8 along with a DirectX 10 or 11 compatible video card. There will be no 32-bit version. Most PC gamers in 2013 have this kind of hardware, and it allows us to create the best game possible for the majority of our customers. I am hardly an expert.. But I have been grabbing any resource i find early, and just placing one constructor on it. This gives me a slight bonus, and keeps the AI from getting one.. the ones near by, i upgrade, the ones farther away, i risk.. If it falls later in a war, then so be it. As for building planets, lately i have been making most planets, a single starport/factory/lab, then a few economic buildings. If the moral is low, i

interesting i will have to try that... with all your help i figured i would post some screenies of my latest game.. And show off a couple ships i made.. I have a couple high level ones too which i will add, as soon as i get to that tech again.. I started a new game with all your advice! Latest Game, Alterians, Tough-huge, 6 random races, 6 minors.. I expanded early to a class 16 and Class 20, built a starport, and started building constr

all awesome info, thanks! @LTjim, I have done what you mentioned about ship building. Swapping it, and stopping it right before it is build, and waiting for an upgrade. Another Q, are those mining boosters, Like influence, economy, military, ect.. basically those colored things on maps you build starbases on. IS there a way to adjust how many of those show up? I see the anomaly and asteroid

Ahh cool, thank you for all the info.. I have run into a bit of an issue. in the game i am playing now I have a nice territory,, But it looks like i am sort of surrounded.. In my area, the terrans moved in and colonized 3 planets, but all are small. I think two 4's and a 5.. I have a Class 7 right next to the 3, and i'm mining asteroids there, along with a Military enhancer mine. the planet has a an influence bonus too. &nbs

that helped a ton.. thought of a couple more easy ones.. Does influence just push at the borders near you? or does total empire influence help? Like say i have a little planet with Bonus influence tiles, but it is on the edge of the map, with a huge area in between me and the borders, is building influence tiles worth it? I my thinking was total influence good, near border better? What about buildings that have the trad

Ok.. more questions, this time from a later point in the game.. It was what i would say would be the time that star-ships were being built. Mostly tiny and small, But a few medium hull ships were around. By this time, my economy started to take a div. i had about 12 small ships, which i added a medium to groups, so i had the logistics that could hold 3 small ships+1 medium. I had traded for armor, sheilds, and rail guns, so i lev

Basically i am wondering about something. It often seems like the planets in the 13-15 range are ones that need to be terra-formed. toxic, water, gravity, radiation ect.. O ccasion i find planets with a 20 rating, and once i saw a 25!! (i could swear 25, but perhaps 24 or 26) what ever it was it was huge. Just curious on how common they are, they seem pretty rare </p

another thing i was wondering, Do you feel it is worth while to wait on scouts till you can make fast ones? I found getting the early survey module can help make some money, so making a couple longer range survey guys seems to work well. Basically, im curious what people think of using a tiny with a couple miniaturization techs, Or go for a small vessel, take the extra cost, and toss an upgraded hyperdrive, with a few extra life-support pods.
