Hm... you icons should still be on your system. They are contained in protected system files. It's the registry values that's broken I assume. Have you tried rebuilding the icon cache? (Tools -> Rebuild Icon Cache)

With the amount of traffic this site gets just accept it as a fact of life..it's going to happen unfortunately Why? Many sites with high number of users don't have as much downtime as WC. deviantArt, Slashdot etc... many users doensn't mean a site have to go down often.
