As others have stated, AMD cards are the better choice for Ashes due to driver...and hardware... related issues that nVidia has with DirectX 12 and Async Shaders. If you are not going to be using DirectX 12 because you are stuck on a non Win10 OS then you want to go nVidia and run the game in DirectX 11.
One issue is that cards with different amounts of VRAM often don't work. If one card is 4GB and the other is 8GB that may be the issue.
That probably solves it then. The 280x is 3gb the 980Ti is 6.
I originally posted this over on Reddit, but IslandDog requested I post this over here. I'll just quote my original post from Reddit. A couple days ago I read that in DirectX 12, Ashes could use a mixed array of AMD and nVidia GPUs. Until about an hour ago I only had a 980Ti in my computer. Being the adventerus type I have procured an AMD GPU to slap into my system to test it all out. I have both the AMD and nVidia drivers install (Latest versions of c

I think the best way to balance them is to just make the AA a bit more hard hitting, but I do agree that bombers are very OP ATM.
Your frame rate at 1440p is slightly better than my rig at 1080p and I have a 2500k @ 4.8Ghz. I've heard mention that turning off the steam FPS counter and overlay helps in certain situations. You may want to look into that. EDIT: Any chance I can get an answer from a dev about my original question?
If you are running in DX12 mode, turn off (yes, off) SLI in the drivers, and enable MGPU in the game. If you're in DX11 then you'll likely need to wait for nVidia to make an SLI profile for the game.
My suggestion is to use DX11. nVidia cards perform better under DX11, and have less issues as well. nVidia will ...may... have their DX12 drivers lined up when the game hits release.
I found the issue. For some reason steam FPS counter caused bad performance. I got nice 50% boost with dual GPU ofthe disabling it. Thats not to say that my FX 8350 performs great. I'm still stuck 45FPSish regardless of graphics quality.
Take out the crossfire Bridge between your cards and disable Crossfire in the drivers then enable MGPU in the game. I've been told this helps. Sounds odd
With the ability to now use GPU's from both AMD and nVidia together, has anyone (devs included) done any testing with Cross Vendor GPU's of differing performance tiers? I currently own a 980Ti (Should have bought that Fury X instead...) But I have acouple of R9 280X cards from my last build that are just collecting dust. I've pondered slapping one into my computer to pair up with the 980Ti just to see what I would get from it. I'm sure it's not ideal, but how is scaling wi
