Oh yeah, thats another wierd thing: LogonStudio works in safe mode. I was under the impression that it wasnt supposed to. Work got cancelled for me, so I'm going to try Essencay's idea after I get some more lunch. We're having a pretty good blizzard here in alberta right now, so the weather and the roads are not so good. [Message Edited]

Oh, by the way, my computer is a Dell and it came with windows installed on it, so I dont have to "official" windows disc, just the Reinstallation cd that the computer came with. I dont know how this will affect the scannow process, since its not really the windows disc.
I dont know if it will detect the cd, but cant I change the boot order to read the CD drive first, before the hard drive? [Message Edited]
Ok, I will definately consider that, Essencay. I have work today though, but I will work on that when I get back, assuming that no one objects to this course of action. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!
corrupt system file I was thinking that too. What does the scannow do?
So. Right now I've managed to get into my user in normal start-up mode. (yay!) It took about 45 minutes to log into it. I dont have any start bar, or any icons. On the plus side, I was able to get into stardock central using the "Run" dialog in the task manager. I also have ObjectBar running, and at the moment I'm trying to get it to display a start bar for me. Whoops! Just locked up ObjectBar, so that idea is out the window. Will try to upload a screenshot of the task manager. I still h
or just move the files manually through the command prompt to a place where they will be safe. Good idea! I'll work on that in the morning.
Still no Windows environment, but explorer was running. I've got to get some sleep. I'll think about some other possible solutions. Also, I'd appreciate any other insight that you (or anyone else) can provide. I'll be back in the morning. /me goes to bed zzzzzzz...........

I live in denial.
I am into my user now (still with no start bar etc.) and I now have a command prompt. What should I do with it? [Message Edited]
Umm, would the DOS mode you're referring to be the Command Prompt option?
dos safemode Whats that? I havent heard of that before.
According to task manager, explorer.exe is running already. Should I end that instance of it first?
It wont let me into either account actually. I have two accounts on the computer: Family and Justin. Both of which are now non-functional. Last night, for a brief period, I was able to log onto the Family one, but it took a really long time. I have tried waiting for over 1/2 an hour for my user to log in, but it just wouldnt go any farther than the "Loading personal settings..." dialog. Now the family user wont go any farther than that either. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/
Example of access denied message: "C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\My Documents is not accessible. Access is denied."
Not that I think any of this is the problem, but did you happen to create a 'password' floppy when you last installed XP? That would be a no. But I know what the password is.
Well, it sorta logs me in, but I have the black backdrop, no start menu, no icons, absolutely nothing at all to click on. I managed to make some minor backups using the task manager. It showed up when I ctrl-alt-dlted to reboot. I hit "Run Program..." and moved a bunch of files from there, onto the network. But its still just black screen, with safe mode in all the corners, and the SP # at the top. The other normal user works fine in safe mode. So does the admin one. I have two adm
Ok Travis, further assistance required. I followed your instructions to the letter, and I get the same old Access Denied error. Does the fact that I have the user I'm trying to access passworded affect the abilty to use this fix?
Cool. Will work on that asap. Question: Will I have to change the owner back if I somehow manage to recover from this without a reformat?
/me is CANADIAN! Dont ask about the edit [Message Edited]

So thats what Frogboy's been doing to relieve frustration.... [Message Edited]
Wow! Travis, you sure know how to fix everything! (Well, I suppose that comes from BREAKING everything first ) I hope you refigure fast.
