Dawn of War: Dark Crusade will break 5 with the release of Soulstorm in ~May instead of a patch for Dark Crusade. Patches usually don't bring new races and campaigns, now do they?
Dark Crusade's balance between the 7 races is flawed. Relic has admitted that they know the balance is flawed, but consider the balance "good enough" to not continue patching and to devote their resources toward

Lets see: Bioshock breaks 1 and 10, Crysis breaks 3 and 4 (although only due to so horribly breaking 3, it's still fun but can't possibly match the hardware requirements), and Unreal Tournament 3 breaks 2. It also looks like Dawn of War: Dark Crusade will break 5 with the release of Soulstorm in ~May instead of a patch for Dark Crusade.
Here are two minor bugs with the interface that I've come across during my playtime in DA 1.6. First, spy placement: 1) Get a spy 2) Open the Domestic Stats 3) Go to the Espionage tab 4) Choose to place the spy using the button in the bottom left 5) This will close the domestic stats menu and let you place the spy, do so to some shmuck civilization somewhere (I recommend Drengin, cause I always play Altarians and enjoy hurting them) 6) Click on Domestic Stat
That was the battle manager then. Combat events occur per-weapon in Dark Avatar, not per-ship. So the pirate ship had three weapons (obviously very powerful), which allowed it to fire on and destroy all of your ships in just one turn. I'll also say that the event list at the bottom seems to be jumbled up. The shots fired in any given round of combat are often mixed up with each other, so the events of your other weapons firing didn't get listed before the respective ships went
When you say only one fired, were you in the battle manager or just watching in the normal view? Only one ship ever visibly fires when watching through the normal view, you only see all ships visibly fire when in the battle manager.
Sorry, from the sound of your first post it seemed like you were suggesting using a defense-heavy ship as part of a fleet, not solo. Solo (or a fleet of such ships), it's an awesome setup. As long as you've got enough defense on each ship to completely absorb one round's average salvo from an enemy fleet, you can pretty much operate in enemy territory indefinitely without ever needing to replace the ship.
You need ONE ship with ~100 point defenses and about 15 attack. If you can not match that, forget defenses on your ships and go with full weapons, 0-2 engines. Dark Avatar has always used a targeting formula to prevent you from gaming the combat system like that (from the combat system thread in beta reports): (Attack / [Defense+HP]) All ships will always target whatever comes up highest on that rating system. So if you load up a ship w
Just a little bug that shouldn't take but 5 minutes to fix. I'm using the latest available beta of 1.6 available through Stardock Central. Here's the steps to replicate: 1) Get a spy 2) Open the Domestic Stats 3) Go to the Espionage tab 4) Choose to place the spy using the button in the bottom left 5) This will close the domestic stats menu and let you place the spy, do so to some shmuck civilization somewhere (I recommend Drengin, cause I always play Altarians and enjoy
Have you tried the Simple Explosions option? I tried it with no explosions at all and there was no slowdown during the game. Cleanup when I quit was still quite slow however.
Something that may help: I've finally pinpointed that the major slowdown for me occurs because of explosions. These can be during a Battle Manager fleet battle, or simply blowing up a lone freighter. Wherever it occurs, the game will outright hiccup, not just slow down, but the game hangs for a brief moment. This brief moment becomes less and less brief as the game wears on. I have no performance problems prior to engaging in a war, but I LIKE going to war, so that doesn't last too long
It is psycho hard to get an alliance sometimes. I've gone games without getting an alliance too. To get an alliance try to maximize the following: Superior military might Historic friendship (don't attack them) Higher diplomacy skill Trade routes Give them stuff in trade (cannot get you the final step though) Be good for good and neutral races Avoid these: Weaker military Weaker diplomacy Close borders Intruding influence on your neighbor's mines
Use the manual you can download through Stardock Central. As far as I know that's kept up do date.
We are working on the memory, the missing stars in mixed vp, and putting in an option for people running in software vp mode to use the old method of rendering which, ironically, works better than the new optimized code that works better for people with the newer, faster video cards. Thing is, I'm running in hardware vp mode by default (checked the debug.err) on a Geforce 7600 GT. I shouldn't be hav
After a particularly onerous session I thought I'd check how much of my system memory was being used during the gaming session. I have 1 GB of RAM and 1.5 GB of page file. Dark Avatar ended up using over 2 GB of memory. No wonder performance was so poor. I think that some re-evaluation needs to be done on just how much is being loaded into memory at any one time.
Unless you're playing Araceans in Dark Avatar with Super Abilities turned on (which means you get first strike in combat), your opponent will always get at least one shot in every fight, even if the entire enemy fleet is destroyed in your first salvo. This means you can be attritted down even by ships that are no match for your fleet, a problem if you're operating far from a planet that is building replacements. By having some defense on the ship you can get through many fights unscathed and so
If I own a thing a wish to give it away to anyone I choose, I absolutely have the right to do so. Aye, there's the rub. A physical object can only be in one person's possesion at a time, but digital data can be reproduced, so there needs to be a way to tie the purchased digital data to a person. Tying
Wow, this is convenient, I was just thinking about making one of these myself. Thanks for getting the ball rolling, now I can post a bit- I mean request list. Anywho, grab a drink and relax cause this is a bigun (sorry). 1) Better right-click support all over the board. I'd like to have right clicks on icons in my taskbar on Objectdock bring up the same list of options as a right click on Windows' taskbar. If I want more, I can turn em on, but
