As I've said before, I don't consider SmartButtons to be worthwhile additions to a skin. The two useful buttons both have problems. The URL button can't be skinned, and the QuickLaunch button doesn't work correctly under WinXP. I've also had problems skinning the button for QuickLaunch under certain circumstances too. SETI is certainly a very good skin, but I find the titlebar buttons a little too small for use at high resolutions, and often find myself accidentally clicking on a wrong
I would advise that if you ever do find a genie da_zman20 that you don't make that second wish. Should you ever walk out in front of a speeding car, you'd find yourself spending the split second you should be using to save yourself worrying that the person in the car was going to hurt themself.
I'd wish for a new wish-granting genie to appear every day. Then I'd make whatever wish I felt most important on that day before wishing that the genie could be free from the lamp forever.
As a rule of thumb, you shouldn't redistribute anything that doesn't come with permission to do so, or that you haven't asked and received permission for from the author. A font like Arial shouldn't need to be redistributed anyway, as it's already installed on everyone's machine. I'd generally say it's better to use standard Windows fonts in skins anyway, unless you're creating a skin with a very specific look to it, as the standard fonts are optimised for display at small sizes on a sc
If it said the font wasn't to be redistributed, I'm not sure why you need to ask. There are freeware fonts out there which give permission to redistribute for any purpose, so those are the ones you should be aiming for. If you really want to include a non-freeware font with a skin, then it's the usual deal of asking for permission from the author. Chances are they won't know what a skin is though.
That app already exists - the WindowBlinds configuration dialog. If you look at the SmartButtons tab/section you'll see the options to configure the plugins used for the SmartButtons. The SmartButtons themselves will need to have been defined in the original skin, but once they are you have complete control over what they do and whether they are visible. What you describe pictoratus is actually the whole idea behind SmartButtons, but the implementation of this feature is somewhat lacking. For example, it's entirely feasible to add ten SmartButtons as dsn suggests, but there are only four possible functions to tie to each of those buttons. My next task of course is to find a way of getting all these buttons on a titlebar without it appearing cluttered. I've managed a maximum of around 12 titlebar buttons before things start to look unintuitive.
Maybe I'm just not as good as I used to be Sylva, but I can't get anything other than a '.exe' file to run with the 'Execute command' buttons. If I could just execute the '.scf' file, it would make things so much simpler. I seem to remember at some point there was talk of how to get an associated application to run just by entering the file extension too. Display Properties and other Control Panels I can do. I can do My Computer, My Documents etc. too. Right now the only way to do Show Desktop seems to be through a copy of the 'Show Desktop.scf' file that you can find in your Quick Launch. I'm having a real headache working out how to get this file to run on the click of a button though. It's driving me insane!
