Well apparently it's not even out yet, so I had a wasted journey.

Not to my knowledge moshi. I think the majority of known cases of ripping are solved by the methods we're talking about. It's only a matter of time though before someone with the monetary resources to do so skips the polite stage and just issues someone with a lawsuit.
I saw a commercial for that BoXXi. It looked... odd. lol
Did you ever play Midtown Madness paxx? Up until that point I didn't buy Microsoft games either. It was a bit like Grand Theft Auto, but you couldn't run over the pedestrians, no matter how much you tried.
It's a game published by Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/games/freelancer/ I've read a couple of reviews online, and they both seem to agree that it's the new Elite (might be showing my age a bit there ), and I loved that game. Just wondered if anyone here had played it yet.
I'm about to go out and buy Freelancer. Has anyone bought it, and if so is it worth the money? Just thought I'd start a thread that isn't about copyright for once...
Are you suggesting that a child who killed should just be slapped on the wrist and sent on his way until the next time he killed, at which point we should hurt him? Hmmm... Anyway.
They also gave free rides in that Ferrari to all their friends without telling them it was a stolen vehicle. Who knows how many people currently have that wallpaper on their Mac desktop thinking it was made by a person called 'Devianart.com'? You can't really blame them for not knowing, but you can make damn sure they're informed of the crime their 'friend' has made them a part of.
If you really want to be pedantic about the car example, they effectively took the car from the car park where the owner had it and put it in their own car park for their friends to look at, and where the owner would have no idea of its location. In that case you could still say the car didn't leave the planet, just as you have said the wallpaper didn't leave the internet.
Ai usez da Macromedeah Fireworkz man. Innit. (English/Moron translation by BabelFish) Not that I'm making fun of the way you speak or anything.
Careful paxx. You're only allowed to make a comment like that if you've got a 'title' before your name...
So your only experience of having your work stolen was as a child in school? My, you have had it rough... My theory is that if we keep saying this to you enough times you might actually read the words and form them into a coherent thought in your head: He uploaded it to his site to distribute the complete wallpaper to other users of the site. It wasn't for 'show and tell'. It wasn't to say 'Hey guys
What browser are you using? It sounds like a possible problem with JavaScript if it only happens when you try to open a preview.
At no point did Jafo insinuate that he would cause physical harm to the admins of that site. In my eyes it would take an extremely paranoid and emotionally unbalanced individual to interpret his comment that way. He was merely implying that it wouldn't take much to report the site to the local authorities, and I believe he spelled that out pretty clearly. Oh wait... your whole argument bases itself on the idea that Jafo gave no thought to contacting the authorities and took the law into his own
When you've actually created something and shared it with the rest of us, come back and give your opinions on artist's rights Youji. Until that time, I suggest you stop making inflamatory statements and pretending to know what is in the best interest of those of us who contribute to the community. As Jafo said, the 'warez' issue has absolutely nothing to do with this situation. I'm sure there are quite a few people here who use copied or cracked versions of their software, but for every
Well I seem to be skinning at a rate of roughly one widget per month at the moment moshi, so that puts my next skin on target for roughly 3 years time... As for patrolling, I tend to keep my eyes open all over the place for this sort of thing. Someone else always reports first though. I must be getting slow in my middle age.
I've posted a message on the DevArt forum backing you up Jafo, as I thought support for your side was somewhat lacking. I'm quite glad I didn't post on 'FunMac' myself, and chose to just watch the events unfold, as now I can patrol without them banning my IP too. I'll let you know what I find...
I think Aqua was talking about the license fee to implement the GIF format and its creation into an application paxx. The plot just got lost somewhere...
Exactly Jafo. Here in the UK it's a very similar situation. Again I could be wrong, but I've heard of copyright cases here in the UK being won on the basis of 'poor man's copyright'. It may be 'poor man's', but it's still copyright. Perhaps the US doesn't offer the same kind of protection. It seems downright ridiculous that you should need to spend out $30 to protect each and every work you create.
I didn't mean what I said to come out as an attack on you, but rather an expression of my continuing irritation over this issue and the lack of constructive discussion that goes on about it. On the one hand we have threads complaining loudly about particular instances of copyright theft, and on the other those threads where we're constantly told how pointless it is to attempt to protect our work. For once I'd like to see the thread that turns toward constructive discussion on how to com
My only gripe with your approach bakerstreet is that you try to produce as much evidence as you can to discredit this particular form of copyright protection without coming up with a worthwhile alternative. It's easy to say something won't work, but not so easy to produce a better solution at the same time.
I haven't even tried to find any evidence to prove otherwise, but I've read about the usefulness of this method, and its positive legal worth, in many highly-respected graphic design print publications over the years. It may well prove to be a futile act, but surely it's better to be seen to do something to protect copyright, however seemingly insignificant, than simply rolling over and admitting defeat in the face of copyright theft. As I've stated time and time again in these message
So negative... Do you have any better ideas then bakerstreet?
If you really want to get technical, I believe forensic science would be able to give a rough estimate on the period since a glue seal was bonded, based on the decay of the glue over time. Also, when sending something by registered delivery (at least in this country) they stick a large sticker on the package with the date, etc. on. If you requested that they stuck it over the seal of the envelope, I'm sure that would be sufficient. I believe they modify the design of those stickers ever
