On one of my little treks around the web today, I came across this site by simply entering my nick into Google. I've certainly never heard of the site, so I haven't given my permission for them to offer my work for download. There's a lot of stuff on the site created by WinCust folks, so I thought others might be interested. Does anyone speak Polish (?) here?? Looks like we need Jafo on the case again...

My solution would be to close the wallpapers section entirely. Keep it a skinning site, and don't allow for the over-complication of moderating another medium entirely. It seems that passions run very highly where wallpapers are concerned, and the need to moderate them only stir those passions to boiling point. The only complaint I have is that you can't monitor network traffic on a particular adapter, but only on a specified IP. As someone who uses a dial-up ISP which provides a different IP each time I connect, the network traffic scales are rendered useless unless I go into configuration and re-select the IP each time I connect. If this were changed, SysMetrix would be perfect!

I agree that in an ideal world adverts on the net wouldn't only be about click-throughs, but this isn't an ideal world. It's a world, and a medium, that is driven by money and measured in literal terms. Sure, it would be nice to be able to just have adverts which don't intrude on your browsing experience, but the very nature of the medium as a fast-paced interactive experience means that such a thing just wouldn't work.

This very subject, by the way, is one of the main problems I encounter as a web designer having to work with print-based designers. The Internet isn't a magazine. They're two very different mediums, with very different dynamics. It's true that you can have a magazine on the Internet, but you can't have the Internet in a magazine. You need to take the Internet for what it is, and stop comparing it to other mediums. Do you compare television to magazines? No. So why compare the Internet?

As a rule, superstitials (popup adverts) work the best, but alienate your viewers. Interstitials (those 10 second ad-breaks) work almost as well as popups, but if done poorly can totally destroy the flow and continuity of a site.
