People with pirated copies never got as far as the P2P complexity issue you raise. Why are you bringing this stupid pirate business up again? [Edit: To clarify, pirated copies would reach the p2p stage but that traffic would be largely or entirely between the players, so how does that affect stardock. My understand was your servers were overloaded by the game checking for updates upon launch with pirated copies. That has nothing to do with the multiplayer/p2p complexity issue.]

This is an awesome build. I really enjoy playing it because of the depth, variety to it.

I would just like to add that Supreme Commander seemed to have the same problem. Especially on larger maps and/or more players involved. Large games (large map, large # of people, large quantity of units in play) would begin to stutter. I'm a bit surprised to see this happening. I'd always thought it was related to simulation speed and weaker machines bogging down from the growing complexity of the late game. In Supcom the unit count grew and grew over time and it had to calculate collision,
You make the full version of Demigod a free download over Impulse. You can't log in to play online without a key, of course, which you have to pay for. It's the full latest game, all bug-fixed and patched, you can skirmish all you like, etc. It's what people are pirating, only with the bugfixes in (for crash to desktops, sound issues, and so on). Make sure that the game, when you're not logged in with a valid key to play online, has a nice big jolly button on the main menu that says "p
Probably won't be a popular idea... but I'd just release the whole game as-is for your demo. I mean it is already being copied around freely, seeded heavily on torrents, etc. Lots of people using pirated copies have been convinced to buy from playing the pirated copy, so you know it works. They'd only have single player and if they really want to try - hacked mp via gameranger or hamachi - but lets face it, that sucks. You should maintain that coupon on a 2nd copy with purchase to pro
Great idea on the 50% off coupon!
Please stop pirating games, you are cheating the developers for alot of moeny even though you buy the game afterwards, poor companies
Yay, another anti-piracy evangelical. This conversation has been done to death on this forum already, did you bother to look around before you started yet another?
dude there is only like 3 or 2 probs left
If only that were true.
I agree with much of what Frogyboy says, except perhaps he oversimplifies when he says: "there are people who buy games and people who don’t buy games". I think it is safe to say the vast majority of people do both, to one degree or another. According to the Business Software Alliance, in the US 40% of businesses with fewer than 100 employees are using illegal software in one form or another. Given those numbers it seems quite possible Stardock and/or Stardock staff have pirated
He did pirate for 12 years now, and continues to. And then you people give him props because once in a while he actualy buys and pays for the thing he has used. To be fair, I did buy and rent some software in those 12 years. Whatever I could afford at the time - but that still left a huge percentage of it pirated. Also to be fair, those were different days. Until I was in my twenties I would have had to drive (I had no car) about three hours
8 to 20. Thats 12 fucking years of piracy! And hes still doing it. ZOMG! Yes, Levelheaded indeed.
(lack of demos actualy is a failing of todays publishers. Stardock included.) We usually do demos, just not until after release. We feel our resources are better spent making the game as good as possible for people who have already bought it or will definitely buy it. Then once it's in good shape for them, the people who need convinced can be looked after.
How about you just seed your full game as a torrent. Call it the demo
No, they're just jerks with entitlement issues. You say entitlement, I say empowerment.
I swear it's refreshing to see the head of a company actually make almost daily highly informative, highly honest posts and keep us completely in the loop. As much as Frogboy's approach to business is fresh and welcome .. I'm not paying for that. I want a functioning game. Nobody should feel obligated to buy the game just because it is DRM free and the devs are "good guys". NPD numbers for last week showed the game was 3rd only after Sims and Lich
I dunno either, seems like the closest thing to a change log is FrogBoy's update posts. Here was the latest which I think is talking about their work on the patch in question: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/348771
Frequently custom game listing never lists anything. If I try to host and get this error: HostGame in CVP failed.
