re: "AI that's as inept as me and having the same resources" It takes all kinds I suppose. It dosen't sound like that's an option for me though. If I "dumb" down the AI to my level - then I'm penalizing their production as well (as production is penalized for the AI at levels below "intelligent" - the 3rd from hardest setting. And I doubt that "intelligent" is my playing level. Let me ask you this... is there any disadvantage to having a "split" difficulty system. Opt

So... if I understand it - the *player* is "cheating" (i.e. getting more money than the AIs) at any level below intelligent? And also that you are unaware of players beating the game at any higher levels. I hope us "cheaters" have strong egos. In any case I would (without even having played the game before) also appreciate the splitting of the "resource modifier" and the "intelligence level" for the AIs. Why? Not to comment on my own shortcomings (too much), but I am very medi
Ah... I was unclear. I think your post speaks solely about "sole survivor" types of victory conditions. In such games I too see little point in continuing. My understanding is that Galciv offers other paths to victory. So... you could "win" or "lose" the game - while still having powerful enemies in the galaxy. As a (somewhat) hypothetical example, I "win" a cultural victory - even though several Terror stars (or Panzers in Civ3, whatever) are closing in on my under de
I'd like to second the idea of (and request for) having an prompt to continue play even when a victory condition is reached by either myself or a computer player. Thanks - Don
Thanks for the quick response. And it's even the answer I was looking for. It may seem minor to some - but (de)selectable paths to victory is a requirement for me on such games. It's just not worth the frustration I feel when I'm having fun in a game and it suddenly ends via a "less concrete" (typically cultural, etc) victory condition that I didn't even know I was close to reaching. Just kind of ruins the fun for me. That said, and your encouraging response read - I can't
re: "immense undertaking having finally come to it's conclusion" Or new beginning. First game I've heard of that is guaranteeing at least a year of development (presumably with free upgrades) *after* it hits the stores. Personally I'm excited about a game that continues to improve as it's played by millions. ;) While I'm bummed to have to wait another month to download it - from everything I've read, it certainly looks worth the wait. Congratulations. Also - is a "s
Congratulations on impending Gold! Unless it was a dream, I seem to recall a post stating that galciv would be available for purchase with a “download” delivery option, with a CD to be shipped later – or is this only for beta testers? If purchase & download is the case – on what date to you expect that downloads (and purchases) will commence? Some of us (non beta testers) are anxiously waiting to play the game for the first time. Thanks.
Actually, I *prefer* either a pdf or even an "in-game" manual to a printed manual. And since (from what I read) each game is "serialized" (for updates, etc), I don't see why having the manual in pdf would be a piracy issue. Of course, I do much of my gaming on a laptop, frequently while traveling, and thus seldom bring printed manuals along. It's nice having the manual on the CD (and harder to misplace also). Note: I'm not a beta tester (nor do I play one on TV), but I wish I h
Greetings. I was reading the moo3 board over on apolyton was intrigued by a comparison of galciv with moo3. With the understanding that what little I know of galciv I've learned today week while browsing this site, I have a question about victory conditions. Principally, I understand that there are four ways to win: 1. Conquering the galaxy militarily 2. Conquering the galaxy culturally 3. Technological victory 4. Political victory My ques
