After just spending hours and hours managing Starbases, I can relate to IBN's valid points. Moreover, he has offered improvement suggestions as well as constructive notations. I might add that the overall construction time for some units - even with well-funded and strong planets - seems to be a bit long. By about 40% or so. However, I am so new to the game that my overall experience (read capability) is not yet enough to have a full grasp to comment definitively. In other words, play more, talk

In response to the original message: I'm having a good time with the game - yeah there are some issues - but overall they are minor. I have both recent releases of 4X games and consider them to be quite a bit different. For now I will focus on Gal-Civ, there will be opportunities for other play as time goes on. AA ;p

Is there to be an actual forum engine for gal-civ as opposed to this chat-line structure? I had to take some heat earlier (a few days ago) because I didn't realize that a new forum structure (this one) was put into place. But frankly, I don't see much difference. I can't search, I can't respond to a particular message among many, can't do much but page up and down. I'd rather have the ability to play the game, link out to post or answer a message, and then return to the game. How do I do that?<b

Most TBS stuff I've played generally (whoa - two ambigs in six words) result in all moves taking place within a complete turn. In other words, select A, tell A to move to or toward X, and the result following the "turn", is that A has accomplished the move and yields a reportable result or is moving to X. So far in Gal-Civ I seem to be getting that basic approach, but with a "turn" (using button) I seem to get mixed results: some ships move (as above) and some do not. But if I select a ship

As a bit of an "off topic" topic, this is thread is one of the best I've seen - bar none (that means at the top of a fictious list). I know there's a cliché out there about youth and daring being overcome by guile and deceit (someone will help out to get it right), but this thread just justifies that - in a positive manner. Gamer fun... what more do you want? AA

Read..."there will be some attempt to control cheating, but don't bet on it". I suspect there will be some level of credibility established within the community itself - over an above whatever methods that may be invoked from SDC itself with the metaverse. Some folks have simply got to exhibit their "mastery" of the situation and show good. Once that phase is accomplished and hopefully ignored, the rest of us can get on about it. The beta testers and early users will have to establish s

I read all of the posts on the MOOIII site. I for one did not see any particular "bashing" of GalCiv from Sencho. What I read were opinions, some his, some by others and some misinterpretations of his comments. There were some points well made. If you believe that MOOIII is imperfect... congratulations. If you think GalCiv is the end of all ends... get a life. You'll not find nirvana in either. Both are mighty approaches to achieving what gamers are seeking, neither have achieved the perfect sta

While reading the Fleming and Jack preview it looks like there are two different UI styles. The window arrangements are the same but the button colors and graphics appear different and even the window view in the upper right has different grid. Is that a selectable function within the final release or just some differences in beta, gamma, etc releases? Doesn't matter, just curious. AA

I've not played the demo, so I may err in some definitions here, but how about some good old fashioned counterfeiting. Sort of similar to a spy-type mission, but instead of a destroy action the evil-doer begins to supplement a planet's income with phoney money. "I'm sorry sir, but we do not enough funds to support that construction." "What do you mean... everything's green on the charts... how can this be?" There are two methods to implement, one more difficult than the other. First, t

From what I've read above and in the Encyclopedia, at the start of a game the player sets the intelligence and morality of each of the races and of course the human player. As an option, is there any ability to roll the dice such that the combination of race, intelligence, and morality is randomly set by keying off of the player's selections? Maybe a wish list item then? As a rough example, if the player chose level 5 intelligence, there would be a 100% chance that there was at least o
