Improved government yields MUCH more higher max PRODUCTION, and less increase in tax income (and none to trade/lease/tribute..). So usually when you change you can observe improved rates for Mil/Soc/Res, but also drop in net income. The "solution" is to reduce spend rate. In my games it usually goes down from 100% in Empire to as low as 50-60% in Star Democracy (but maintenance costs are also a cause of the drop, they end up very high). If you take ZaH example above,

Desert Fox, Do you really believe Atari and C64 disappeared because of piracy ?? Who was able to pirate the machines themselves ? ;) On PC platforms, piracy was MUCH more easy some years ago, yet it didn't kill anything... And dinosaurs, why did they disappear ? LOL

Yes, and what if the defender could choose a "last minute retreat", creating a Col/transport ship with some of the pop he could save ? Another nice thing would be to make some InvTactics obsolete when the defender reaches certain tech. Currently you can't do much when being invaded, there is no way to "counter" the attacker.

I don't like much the +50% HP ability, anyway what you need is to have ships 1 class above opponents, not "sturdier"ones of the same class. Federalists are nice because they allow you a good economics start, that help fund your research, then to build hi-tech ships that blast your foes ! LOL

Your AVATARS are A25/D16 ?? This means you have Weapons and Defense at +25%-30% approx ... That's VERY weak for this stage of game, you should have more than +60% ! But you say your Dreads are A34/D14, much more than your Avatar, and this imply Weapons >+200%, so I'm not sure of your figures... Didn't you look at a "parked" Dread in orbit over a system with additional "defense" bonus ? Or is your dread very recent and/or high level, and your Avatar old/low level ? Unclear... :notsur

In my last game I thanked the I league : they were created out of a Drengin system, so I allied with them vs the Drengins. Then they dragged me into a war vs Arceans, it was a good idea cause it alloed me to conquer the Arceans ;). I finally broke the alliance to avoid being at war with Torians and Altarians, but then they went themselves to a looooong unconclusive war vs the Torians, who ranked #2 (I was 1st at that time). The I league was quite powerful at that time, they had Dreads with 1

Is the startup screen political party scrollbar issue (ie scroll bar doesn't work, only 6 parties selectable) fixed or planned to be fixed soon ?

In practice it doesn't give much result IMHO.. Last game I play I maxed out Destab on Drengin, after maybe 50 turns their morale had dropped from 68 to 54, big deal, but relations went from Warm to Cool ... It was a small galaxy, mid game, I put >100 bc/turn on this destab out of maybe 3-400 total revenue, and I was 1st in Economy (and tech too ;) ). Looks like a waste of resources... :(

Well, not wanting to start a flame war, but while I have no real problems using SDC (except too much frequent auto-updates and some connection problems ...), I fail to see why it is so needed to make incremental patches. A host of simplest solutions for incremental patches exist since ages, from brutish RTPatch to quite easy and transparent systems - such as those used for MMORPGs or Neverwinter. As for bandwidth SDC may save some server-side, but from my side I only get at most 20-25 k

I'll pass the new political parties for the time, as long as the "scroll bar bug" is not fixed. Another possible problem : regarding elections, does the game allow more than 5-6 parties ? I'm not sure the election graphics won't crash if there is 10+ parties competing ...

Same for me, crashes whenever I try the pack of mods that was uploaded last week. Now I stay away from the mods, it's sad, but we need some way to at least *know* what mods make the game crash ! (:( Currently the game just CTD, and the debug.err file has log of the errors, but doesn't tell what event/tech/etc caused the crash ... :sniff!:

Well, Rusty, I use your mod from Axis of Weasel leading power ;) , you make good work ! I support your request, but I think that the prime thing needed is a mod tester/parser that will allow to get "safe", working mods... This weekend I've tried the batch of new mods that has been posted in the library : first the Political pack didn't work correctly, but it seems to be a GalCiv bug with the party scroll bar, but after some 100 turns my games regularly CTD without any clear message

The scroll bar problem doesn't seem to be tied with the parties'id range... Looking at the debug.err file, here's what I have every time I run the game : Debug Message: MWinEditFields::Create - Unable to find scroll bar sizing graphic for PolPartyLB This line should mean there's some bug preventing the Political scroll bar from working, isn't it ? .. :notsure:
