I too was going to suggest having more production templates (governors). If there were 8 I would still use them all. My nature is to think very deeply and do more customizing or refinement of my strategies. NEW SUGGESTION: First, I assume that the player decides for himself "what" items to put into his governor templates. How about having the templates saved to a file, so that they don't have to be re-entered for each new game?

"It aint how large your map is, its what you do with it! " Err, pardon me. But, its "what you do with the size of map you have."
OK. Just in case anyone misunderstood. No one was suggesting releasing bonus packs to persons who do not yet have the game. The point was simply that "game downloads", if made available *prior* to release to persons who *already* have the game, will likely mean quicker downloads for those getting the game after its release, since this would take some of the load off of the servers.
I used Win98 SE for many years. Considering that it is not, and never was, a *true* operating system, but merely a GUI running on top of DOS, it ran better than I expected. Actually, "Novel DOS 7," which was the first to apply a decent multitasking GUI to DOS, was more stable. Novel just didn't have the recources and exposure of Microsoft. However, as to WIN 9X stability? I'm still surprised that anyone could say that it is stable. It crashed on me too many times and caused more pr

This wouldn't be a problem as long as you put a clear notation next to the "Gigantic" setup option and in the manual which says: "Caution, this option is not suitable for processors slower than 1.2 GHz. You will encounter too much processor slow down between turns." Or: Could the program be made to detect the processor speed, and hence not even display the "Gigantic" option if under a certain speed? But anyway, but as Soulfire says, "We'll just have to see" if the largest galax
There are tons of ideas flying about in this forum that "might not" fit in to the game balance, etc. But I happen to like large galaxies, part of the time. Just tossing out things to think about. And they just might work. But whether galaxy sizes were increased, *or not*, the following might be interesting, if it could work with the game engine, etc. For large galaxies, as they are **now** in the game: Could a setup option be implemented to let the user opt to include more
Do see the thread about "random event suggestions". You can add your own. Although it would be nice to see more events in order to give the feel you want, this won't be an issue in the least with me. What I want to find out is: "Will I still enjoy getting deep into the game's strategy in years to come, or will the game have a long term enjoyment curve." But there are a lot of other interesting features that have been suggested that IMHO will add more to the game than adding
Actually, I like Ted's idea to have the number of allowable ships in orbit based on, perhaps, the number of planets, or the population of the entire system. A large system should be able to be better defended. Not sure what you mean by "minor" races, since I don't have the game, but if they are like the magnate, non-player races in MOO3, then I'd have to say that they shouldn't be allowed to build mass numbers of ships anyway, since they have small roles in the game. Just my t
Good question. And along the same lines, let me broaden the question. Scanners? Are they used in the game? Can you see opponent fleets "in orbit" at other stars? Can you see opponent fleets "in warp transit in deep space"? Can you see the composition of those fleets?
Serendipity: Scientists "stumble" upon the solution for the advance before expected.
Mentioned in the "Stars! Supernova Genesis" forum.
A little more on the "Brown Dwarf" event: Prior to the brown drawf igniting, the star appears on the map as a dull brown star. After it ignites, it appears as a normal bright star, making a previously useless system into a usable system. Perhaps 2 or 3 brown dwarf events per game would be fun.
Random Events: 1- BROWN DWARF: A "rare" brown dwarf suddenly ignites. This suddenly improves the habitability of its planets, making a *useless* system now into reasonable and useable quality. 2- WEAKENING STAR: A star's fusion reactions suddenly diminish, reducing the star's habitablity.
Idea for "random event": ;p In game news flash: "A human game developer fails at providing a game which "absorbs" a player into the strategy by not giving MiM controls to allow for greater player strategic decisivenss. For the next 10 turns, you don't have MiM control access to pick your techs or know what techs your enemy ships have. Your MiM game controls have been taken from your use for 10 turns." :notsure:
Developers, how about these ideas? 1- Would a 30 X 30 galaxy be feasible to implement and still not create too much slow down (For 1Gz)that would *outweigh* a player's enjoyment and fervor to play in a huge galaxy? 2- Could the following be implemented to better accomadate huge galaxies: a) A setup option to provide for better engines/speed techs. Or b) Allowing better engines to be edited (added) into the text file. 3- To help with the problem in a hu
A FEW THOUGHTS on large galaxies: (Sometimes I have thots. ;) I can't help it.) :notsure: Admittedly, the slow down would be an inconvenience, but that would be outweighed by the enjoyment and fervor which a player has for playing in a larger galaxy. But I realize there also needs to be a practical limit in galaxy size due to *excessive* slow down. I wonder if a 30 X 30 would be feasible, without having unreasonable long slow down. The problems of having such long ran
What is "MoM" and where do I get it?
I also found the VMware site at google. Its expensive. Are there any similar shareware options?
I found a DOS emulator for Windows. http://www.shouldexist.org/story/2000/6/26/22925/4031
3 things: Soulfire: Yes, I've always agreed. Even now I still prefer to play MOO1 more than 2. GreenReaper: Can I get VMWare at Tucows or Download? I guess I need to click on the "System" or "Operating System" section once I get there. Anyway, ever since I got XP Pro, some of my Win98 apps do not work "quite" right in various ways. Some don't work at all. Yes, I know about the "compatibility" tab. But in most cases, it doesn't change any
Will there be information tables available for the game or will I need to make some? For example: A list of all ship types with their various attributes shown for quick reference. Is there a printed manual in the box?
