research tips? in Research GalCiv2 Forums

Hello, I'm very impressed with the game, but the research tree is swamping me down! I'm a casual gamer, so please be gentle, which would be a good section of the research tree for general use please? Or any research tips for a noob please? Many thanks in advance.
