Did it? They said (paraphrased) "Thank you peregrine for compiling this list of questions." then (paraphrased) "We're going to answer chat questions first because they bothered to come here." Then they spent the whole time answering chat questions, answering only one forum question. So maybe it "worked out" for your Internet cred [e digicons]:P[/e] . Moral of the story? If you really want a question answered, ask in Twitch chat. I'm fine with that. After all, the Twitch is su

I know it's difficult to resist folks, but this discussion is starting to get entrenched in party politics. I'm not the forum police, but I don't want to see folks banned because they got way off-topic in a borderline political dev post.

Planetary Wealth is an approval bonus/penalty. You can see it if you hover over Approval in the planetary screen. I intended to reverse engineer it, unsuccessfully, but I found some things that are a step in the right direction. 1. Planetary Wealth is a function of Wealth and Maintenance. As far as I can tell, there is no other variable. 2. The reason changes to the High Approval production bonus do not apply this turn is because if it did it would impact Wealth, which would i

As someone who is actually right-wing (and a Glenn Beck supporter BTW), it kills me a little inside when someone sees me as racist/sexist instead of principled. My skin is thick enough to handle it; what kills me is how our western society has convinced so many people that disagreement = evil. Just because I don't want to allow people to be able to choose to kill unborn human babies doesn't mean I hate women, for example. It's so divisive that people shut their m

There's so much potential with diplomacy, what was in GalCiv2 could only be the beginning. I like being able to persuade them to do things that are not in their best long-term interests, but are in mine. Persuade a civ to focus research and/or pursue (avoid) specific research trees. Open border treaties so I gain some influence and/or citizens for soldiering on planets I don't own. Maybe I can influence local social issues on a per planet basis (environmentalism to reduce manufacturin

Good thinking. I did and found that, while it didn't have any influence buildings or bonuses, it did have 1230 base influence on turn 2000, 3100 with *my* bonuses. Since I have 73,300 total in a planet 4 tiles away, I still expect to have flipped it.
Except that you don't have to flip a single planet to win a culture victory. The culture victory conditions are to have x% of the galaxy inside your ZoI and don't be at war with anyone.
Fair point. Perhaps that's just the completionist in me that I want all your planets are belong to me.

So I'm up to turn 1500 now. I've made the following changes: * I invaded 3 of the 4 planets so I can focus on the last one. * I control a nearby planet, which I have loaded up with Influence stuff (7 outreach centers, 4 capitals including a very well-placed Entertainment Capital for the adjacency bonuses) * The area now has 7 fully upgraded cultural starbases, 6 have my planet within its border, 5 have the enemy planet within its border * The planet is

This is great! I have some comments. B.1. As you may recall, the approval production bonus is multiplicative, not additive. I believe for influence it is additive as you indicate in your formula (see C) B.2. Here is a screenshot of my highest influence planet (turn 619). Note that my *current influence* is 1384.3, and my *influence bonuses* bring it up to 2491.7. I think you are right that there is no limit. Or rather, I haven't found it yet, it seems. <img src="ht

I can't get my enemy's planets to culture flip despite 400+ turns of my borders encompassing the whole galaxy, heavy use of nearby embassies, and up to 4 fully upgraded culture starbases nearby. What are the requirements for culture flipping, and how can I tell how close I am to meeting the requirements? Does ideology, approval, or relative power make a difference? P.S. I already own their home planet.
A transport would be quicker.
In my case, it's more about learning the mechanics of flipping, learning what it takes. Was pretty straight-forward in GC2. This particular match is against a beginner AI and I had full control of the galaxy the moment I hit Age of War. So it's definitely not about winning.

200 more turns, no progress. I have one area with 4 fully upgraded cultural starbases. A planet I own 4 tiles away has 2491 influence, and according to the context windows my planet is generating 7 times more influence per turn (48 vs 6.8, though those numbers are not reflected in the planet details screen). Is there some race trait causing this? Some ideology unlock or tech? Is there some kind of rudimentary diplomacy involved here, such as them being resistant because of my ideology or an o

Well I'm up to 200 turns now with the enemy planets within my borders. My cultural borders now fully consume the galaxy. I've surrounded the enemy planets with 4 fully upgraded culture starbases, and loaded my nearby planets (within 4 hexes) with extra influence improvements. Still no flipping. Wish I could see the influence ratio on those enemy planets so I can tell if I'm even close.
More people also increases the amount of money you can make on the planet. When the planet's income starts to go over its costs (maintenance for all those buildings) then that too will help with approval issues as approval is now tied to wealth. So yes, you will still take a hit in approval when the max pop mark is hit, it will not be as high as the previous time.
That I did not know. I always wondered why wealth m

It's also worth mentioning that, while farms are a good measure for alleviating approval issues, eventually the planet reaches max pop again, and there's only so many hexes. Hopefully by that time you've managed to research more advanced morale-related techs.

I control this tiny galaxy. I've left the Iridium with 4 planets and I intend to culture flip them, like I did Mars early in the game. Each is surrounded by 2 culture starbases maxed out. Each is within my border (2 decidedly so) and have been for about 80 turns now. Approval on those planets ranges from 26% to 100%. What is it going to take to flip those planets?

14 Replies 32,702 Views

I waited about 50 turns to see if a civilizations last planet would culture flip, before I just sent a transport out of impatience. Can anyone confirm whether it is possible? I'm not sure whether or not it was their home planet and/or capital.
