Synthetic species require durantium? in Galactic Civilizations III GalCiv3 Forums

I don’t get to play very often, but I like to play synthetic. This time it is requiring durantium to build population, but I don’t remember that ever happening before. Is this new? Or a glitch? Or just a case of bad memories?
