maybe your problems stem from having a pirated version perhaps? Patches have been released that address crash/lockup problems some people have related to sound. If you have a purchased copy, you can download those patches. ~SDC~

I thought Alliance had some sort of prerequisite? I researched Diplomacy, which allowed Advanced Diplo and Trade, but Alliance was not available to me. I thought I look on Javascout's website and saw that Alliance depended on all kinds of wierd stuff like nanotechnology and phasers or something that did not make sense to me. Am I wrong or am I misunderstanding the techtree you made? (I see no arrows going to Alliance other than Diplomacy) ~SDC~
But with a credit card, you are getting a short-term gain (money now) in exchange for a long-term loss (interest charged). This is the time-value of money. Yes, even the stupid AI settings should see a money-for-money trade and know they are getting swindled. I have not tried this, but I suspect you could also offer the AI some money and ask for the same amount of money plus some other goods in return. The more money you offer and ask for, the better the goods you can ask for
whew! thanks! ~SDC~
Erm, the only documentation I see shows you how to register your software and a quick FAQ on downloading updates with SDC. The Help that comes as part of SDC, if you lookup Discussions, you get a big screenshot of discussions and a little blurb that says this is where the Discussions are. Is there some other place of documentation? P.S. As you can see I am tryind to use SDC (but still getting myself into trouble...see my other topic on having Hidden my Galciv installat
I stupidly chose the "Hide this program" for Galciv in SDC. Well, now it is hidden and no amount of prodding/refreshing seems to bring it back. Do I have any hope? What I'd really like to hide is all the shareware programs, but they option is greyed out for them (:( ~SDC~
can you "take back" the license? If you trade it to someone, can you cut them off? ~SDC~
but they are not getting a prophet! They are giving loans for a loss. That is like going to the bank and asking for a loan and them saying they will give you 10% interest on the loan (instead of charging 10% interest) ~SDC~
Yep. that brings up another point. The AI not only needs to eval ships based on their distance from their empire or whether they are currently in use. It also needs to eval planets similarly. It should value planets that are far from their empire alot less. It should lower the value of planets that are culturally dominated by a foreign empire alot less. If you have a crapload of ships next to the planet you are offering and you are not on good terms, it should not put much value in the plan
Frogboy, don't forget some documentation on SDC and how to learn to use it "in 10 minutes". I've spent more than that amount of time and have not gotten past some of the issues I mentioned above (sorting new posts, not seeing some posts using SDC , etc)...
It could be. Maybe a developer could confirm whether this is a bug or feature. If it is a feature, I'd like to make a suggestion to make this an option to disable. If it is a bug, I'd like to get it fixed :D
It would also help curb the tactic of buying the defenders from someone you are about to attack as they would place more value on their own ships that are guarding their planets.
Thanks Ash, I'll try that next time.
In #3 above, I want to add that I waited hours for it to show up. I restarted SDC, I told it to refresh. Nothing worked. When I came to the website, not only was my post there, but there were replies to it. 6. There is no edit function in this forum, either using SDC or the web-based forum. That is annoying. 7. bbcodes for bold/italic are sure nice. I wish we had them.
I quit using SDCentral for the discussions due to the following problems: 1. There is no help on how to use it. It took me 2 weeks to discover you could right-click the forum button and "Catchup" to mark all articles as read. 2. I don't know how to sort new posts to the top. I tried clicking on the column heading to sort and it did sort them in some wierd order I could make no sense of. 3. It does not have all posts. I posted a new thread using SDC and could never s
freespace, since it is a problem with sound, try editing the game's ini file and disabling music then see if you can start/play the game.
More... 6. Is there any way to "cancel" launching a colony ship into orbit? Sometimes I select the ship and hit launch, then it is asking me how many people to put on it. I find no way to cancel this action. If I click on the mainmap to deselect the ship, then the ship launches with whatever the slider is set to. Once it is launched, I have found no way to transfer the people back to the planet other than moving on the star and clicking on the planet. This, unfortunately, destroys
I like the BG music. Unfortunately, whenever I pull up any of the management screens (planet, domestic policy, etc) the music goes way down in volume. Does this happen to other people? I spend alot of time on these screens and would like the music to continue at normal volume. Perhaps it could be made an options. 2. Please, please, PLEASE make an option so that when you have moved your ship, the next ship IS NOT selected. I realize some people may like this, but when I am scouting,
well, you'd have to attack after declaring war to get the shift of course. Then the shift would also need to consider whether the victim was recently an ally. I think after you did it 1 or 2 times, the AI would not accept peace so quickly so you wouldn't get to abuse the system. ~SDC~
yep. declare war should be an option. if you or an AI attacks someone they have not declared war with (either by Declare War or by offering to declare war in a trade), then that empire should get a shift towards evil. If they are nice and declare war before attacking, then they get a shift towards good. ~SDC~
Yep...I...won one...too...yeah that's it. Make sure you sign mine with a gold pen. ~SDC~
