I just started a large map last night and decided i would be evil. I put all the other empires on Random alignment. After I met the Drengin (evil) and the Yor (pure good), this event came up (I was neutral, tending towards evil at the time) and I got slammed for 3% :( ~SDC~

yep, but for any given race, at any given lease term, there is no skill in getting the exact $ amount at which it goes from yellow to green. It is just repetitive punching in of values. I don't want to get rid of the skill and differences of races and terms, I just want to get rid of the tediousness of finding the $ amount once you decide on the other things. It slows down gameplay. And I find myself thinking I have to do it, afterall the computer players are doing it to each other. <BR

When you are selling something for cash, there is NO skill involved in getting the cash you want. First you pick the term. Then you do a manual, timeconsuming binary search on the amount to get to the exact amount the AI will accept. You learn nothing. Well, I take that back, I did learn that I can hit the Insert key so I can overtype the money amount instead of having to hit Del Del Del, then typing it. The strategy with trading is if you wanted to trade for other things be

but given the same tech level and spending slider and social improvements and 2 different planets, what determines the difference in build-speed between the planets? Is it population? Does each point of population add to the manufactur capacity? Or is it something else? ~SDC~

I just doubt this "behind-the-scenes" peace-dealing is really happening when I asked the altarians to make peace with drengins. I was on a small galaxy and I KNOW they did not give the Drengins any planets or starbases. And if it was tech the Drengins wanted, then they should have accepted my offering. Some sort of toggle as Dearmad suggested could solve this problem: If the Drengins WANT the war, then there should not be a MAKE PEACE option when talking to the Altarians. You would h

yeah it seems fishy. These capitals are supposed to be some sort of "imperial focus" of your empire-wide efforts to make a certain location as efficient as possible. It is not a building that magically makes things better. Once you takeover another planet with one of these, it would stand to reason that the infrastructure on the new planet that supports the 2nd capital would collapse since it was all tied to the original government. ~SDC~

Since SDC does not have search ability, I can't find the old thread, so here I'll start a new one :) I made a playlist last night and really enjoyed it. I used music from the following games: Galciv (I used the 5 ambient songs + the intro song) Age of Wonders 1 and 2 Fantasy General Final Fantasy 5, 7, and 8 Space Empires 4 Spellcross Ecco: Songs of Time I picked enough songs for about 3 hours of music. I used winLAME to re-encode some of m

Scenario: I was trying for a alliance victory. I had 4 of the empires "Close" with me and one "Friendly". While I was waiting for the last race to get "Close" (at which point I was gonna give everyone alliances at the same time for a blitzkrieg-style win), the Drengin decided to goto war with 3 of the other civs. When I finally got the last race (Altarians I think) to Close status, I was ready. But I figured I needed to end their wars so I would not get dragged into war via alliance

Scenario: A minor civ had some trade routes with some other empires. I went and conquered the minor civ. Afterwards, there were still little trade freighters coming/going from the planet. If you clicked on them they said where they were going and how much they were worth. But if you went to the Trade screen, they were not listed as routes and they also were not on the trade route map. As far as I could tell, I was not getting any income from them. I don't know if the other empire

Here is the scenario: I built an Economic Capital and a Manufacturing Capital. So did the two nearby minor races. When I got my battleship tech I built a fleet and conquered both of the minor races. When I got their planets, they still had their Econ and Manu capitals on them. The net result was I had 3 economic capitals and manufacturing capitals and all 3 systems were getting huge bonuses according to the planet details screen. That just did not seem right.

Even more curious: if you give the freighter to someone and they then land it on your planet, what is the "source" of the freighter. I ask b/c isn't the source of the freighter the planet that built it? Does the trade go from your planet to your planet? Hey, what if they take the freighter and land it somewhere else? The source would be your planet, does that mean you would get the income for it?? Could be a way to "steal" someone else's trade-route slot... ~SDC~

yes I have noticed that if I bump up the tax-slider all the planet morales drop to 30's and 40's. But if I wait it out a few turns all of a sudden the morales jump back over 50 and everything is okay. The people seem to get mad for a few months, but then like in real life, they get used to the extra taxes and carry on with their work. ~SDC~

I think the ship pathfinding always moves diagonally first until it is directly above/to the side of the destination, then it moves vertically/horizontally. The net effect is your freighter will usually take one path going and a different path leaving like so: From B to A: A ^ | \ \ B From A to B A \ \ | v B ~SDC~

Yep. This is a great game and the strategic AI is great. But I am surprised that the AI does not look at any situational modifiers on the items up for trade (it only looks at the value of that type of item, not whether or not that particular individual is desirable). The "humanlike" AI has been one of the most touted features of this game during development. Trading is a big part of this game as you can tell by the wealth of trade options available (options I've not seen in other games befor

Thanks for the patch Frogboy. Hopefully you can find simple solutions to some of the trading cheese so it can get fixed. Ships: don't buy crappy ships. don't buy good ships for more than you can make/lease them yourself. don't buy ships more than X turns away from your planets. Planets: don't buy planets in a sector culturally dominated by other empires. Or don't buy planets far from your planets. Maybe those are simple solutions?? Cheers! <BR

Frogboy, when you write those histories, can you make sure and include the version number in the history? Sometimes you do, sometimes you do not. I never know if what I am downloading matches the history. Also, all of these 1.01A... patches never update the version in the game to match. The game just says 1.01 which makes me wonder whethere the patch is really in there or not. Whomever suggested that SDC be proactive in notifying you of patches is spot on. If you could have a check
