Space Empires III was good, IV never caught on as much probably due to extremely excessive micromanagement. ~SDC~

The only multiplayer player I would go for as far as a TBS type game is concerned is hotseat or PBEM (play by email). Given the shear size of a game and the time it takes to do a game properly, I can't see doing online coding. They tried this for CIV3 and it has mostly turned a 4X game into a military conquest only wargame, which is not the original idea of the civ series. I did have a couple of good PBEM games of CIV3 going until they hit a crash bug. So now my only PBEM game is comput
Ryan, I am not pissed about losing; if I was I would stop playing this game because so far, that's all that's happening. No biggie. I *am* pissed about a diplomatic scheme that has the side you have the best, very positive, relations with turn around and declare war on you for no reason other than you wouldn't let them cripple you by giving up your capital's starbase in a sudden demand. If you have taken the effort to build relations with a side from neutral to warm to friendly then I d
Basically, this issue is part of the diplomatic scheme. And this is where I just abandoned a game because of diplomatic sillyness. In post #5, The Leader said, "The goal was to prevent what happens in other strategy games where everyone, even your longtime friends, start attacking you when you get too strong.". Well, in the game just abandoned, I was friendly with the Drengins when suddenly they demanded the starbase orbiting Earth and declared war when I naturally refused. So here was
Yup, I have yet to get past the battlecruiser rush, except for one game where the Torians took them out, just before taking me out. And I hate sitting there with a starbase and three battlehammers in orbit 'defending' Earth only to have them invade and win anyway ignoring my orbitting defense force. ~SDC~
I can see negative consequences in a forced move but perhaps a planned move has much less impact and may be a good idea depending on the war (or even potential war) situation. ~SDC~
And here I am in my third game and yet to see one! Mind you, one game I didn't see anyone until I could get transports out to 4 sectors because I was stuck in a corner with no other systems around for 4 sectors. (That game didn't last long.) I guess I'd better be ready for the averages to catch up with me! :) ~SDC~
Old modular SPI game is Strategy I, my copy is on a shelf behind me. :) I'm another that fell to the S&T lifetime trap. I didn't realize it was their lifetime and it lasted just shy of two years for me. SPI also put out the Blitzkreig Module System, essentially piggybacking new rules and counters onto Blitkreig. But my favourite SPI game is War in Europe. So much so that I bought the computer version of it and now play by email with a couple friends I played the boardgame with
Played my first wargame (Avalon Hill's "Stalingrad") when I was 13. Now 47 and still gaming. ~SDC~
A quick note from previous post (first reply to this thread): No problems booting up after the auto update yesterday. Its nice to see the way things are working around here. :) ~SDC~
So the fact that it auto updated to 0.99b.141 is not a good thing? ~SDC~
Nope, no need to have it always on. I just keep an icon on the desktop and check it every now and then. You just need the basic install, it gives you access to a lot of stuff but no need to actually get it. Having it means you get the incremental tweaks and fixes and upgrades without having to wait for a bunch of them to be compiled into a formal patch. Sounded good enough for me to download and install it. ~SDC~
AFAICT : As Far As I Can Tell One of the less used acronyms. ~SDC~
Hmm, according to 'Help', 'About', the version I have, downloaded today, is 0.99.138 and it hasn't asked me for a newsreader or anything like that. ~SDC~
Another one just reading the forum, no expirience with the game. Can you stop a terror star once started? As in, can you start it, watch their population flee, stop the terror star and land your own colony on this now deserted world? ~SDC~
Roger that. Er, do you have any shrubbery? :) ~SDC~
Bloody hell! Where's a shrubberer when you need one? :)
