You can also count me in when you will need beta testers for Linux version of your next release of GalCiv (or any other 4X game). Also don't forget to send out the call to various Linux gaming sites. I'm sure you will get enough people who will be willing to do testing on Linux.

You should most definitely consider Ogg Vorbis for future games. It is open and free format and there is no fees and all that for a format that is high quality and very advanced. I see it used in a lot of new games (UT2003 for example). Just contact Xiph.org and ask them how you can cooperate. I'm sure they will be more then glad to help.
Tried that but it didn't help. And I have also found out why it doesn't work. It seams that Ogg Vorbis format is not supported (or am I doing something completely wrong?). If it isn't supported I hope it will be supported in the future. it is an open and free format and they wouldn't have to pay anything to implement support for this excellent format.
Hi, I have created a playlist with Winamp and saved it and then copied it to PlayList folder where the game is installed. I also enabled custom playlist in games options and selected the m3u file but the music is not played. What could I be doing wrong?
I use Linux on my main machines (for normal work like browsing, office work, music listening, movie watching and some gaming) and only have Windows dual booting with Linux on one machine. Just for apps that re not available for Linux and apps and games that don't work in Linux. For all other jobs I use Linux and would also like to see a GalCiv binary for Linux. It would be one more reason not to use Windows anymore.
I use Exact Audio Copy to rip my CDs directly into Ogg Vorbis. And in Linux there are quite a lot of apps that can do that, I use Grip. Almost all of my music is in Ogg Vorbis. It is quite a bit more advanced format then MP3. It gives me smaller files which sound better. And if you need to you can also encode into multichanel Ogg Vorbis files (great for movi audio). This is the future of lossy audio music. Another format I regularly use is FLAC which is an open and free lossless audio format.<br
Great. Can't wait to see some Star Trek mod for Galactic Civilizations. Is anyone working on it? ~SDC~
Why is there this stupid limitation of 16bit? Who uses this color depth nowdays anyway. it should also work in 24 and 32 bit. They are more then capable of displaying all colors from 16nit pallete. ~SDC~
Same here. A lot of game exiting. Windows XP Pro with SP1.
I agree. Higher and lower resolutions would be great. On one computer the current resolution doesn't fit (800x600 max) but on another I have my resolution on 1600x1200 and extra resolution support always comes in very handy in games like this. In Stars! they even had different display layouts for small, medium and high resolutions. ~SDC~
Is it possible to play Ogg Vorbis files with this? I stoped using MP3s quite some time ago as Ogg Vorbis gives you smaller files and better quality along with some other neat features. Anyways, now almost all of my files are in this wonderfull format and I wonder if it is possible to play them. ~SDC~
Hi, I'm still waiting for this game to be available in stores here in Slovenia. And while I'm waiting I would like to ask you if there will be a native Linux binary for this excellent game. I'm slowly moving away from Windows and starting to use Linux more and more and it would be really nice to be able to play this in Linux.
I have a question about the manual. Do we get it printed if we buy boxed retail game? I ask this because I hate to read PDFs from computer and you can't read the manual and play the game at the same time. Maybe some day tablet PCs will be cheap enogh so we could read docs from them but today it is much more convenient to have a book.
I hope we'll se this here in Slovenia too. Can't wait to play this game.
