Is it going to work the same, but just more important? I ask because right now, a class 10 planet can't benefit from any of that series, but a class 11 planet can get three extra tiles, and as near as I can tell, a class 26 planet would get the same three extra tiles. Of course I've got ideas, I just don't want to throw them at you if you (as a group) have already decided where you're going with terraforming.

BoogieBac: Before I start officially asking for it, I want to make sure that there won't be a way to approximate what I want in the tools already planned. What I want is a way to have a library of empty hulls (just a hull plus extras), and then be able to use them as templates for ship designs. If a single design can be "upgraded" to two different designs (not sure how to handle existing ships based on the starting design if this

That's the silly part about it, LAB72. The machine sits at 0-2% CPU usage and NO disk activity for the entire 2 minutes, and is by far the fastest machine I've tested GC2 on. It's my primary game machine. AMD64 3500+ in a socket 939 MB, a gig of CAS 2.0 400 Mhz DDR memory (512MB in each channel, also normally 1.5G of same, but I dropped down to 1G to make sure that I wasn't having memory issues, and just haven't gotten around to sticking the rest ba

Yes, Frogboy, though I find that reloading games in combination with checking the map with "show ownership" to seldom survive more than a single regeneration of the map, and since I'm one of the people stuck with a 2 minute startup time for GC2, Ctrl-N doesn't save as much time as you'd think.

I do save them. Sometimes they go poof for no apparent reason, usually when I go in to tweak something, but not always. I probably should report that as a bug. The other bug that I'm reporting is that for the first time in 4C, I'm to the point that I've got the Hyperion Planetary Fleet achievement, and it didn't work. It would create a one-ship fleet in places that I knew I had three ships stationed. I'd get to see the battles, even thou

I had dropped the number of opponents down, but almost always had one start on top of me with tight clusters anyway. Looking forward to seeing the new tweakings. The larger gigantic galaxy will be nice too

Ref msg 65, issue #1, ignore it. The next time I started a game, my racial abilities had gone away, so it probably was that way from the beginning and I didn't notice. However, I'm finding that the lost "Next" button issue is back.

You can't research more than one thing at a time. There's several ways to increase the speed that you research techs. 1) Increase your overall funding level. Really, you should try to balance your play so that your spending is at 100% at all times, with rare emergency-type exceptions. 2) Increase the amount of that overall funding that goes to Research. 3) Build Basic Labs/Xeno Labs/Research Centers/Research

Cutting back on the number of connection points and extras does nothing to make things simpler. In fact, it isn't hard at all, once you get used to it. Once you get the stuff that looks wrong if it's not right (extras, engines, and weapons), you don't even have to place anything else by hand, you can just add it and the ship designer will find an available connection point for you. Having a button to place two of something in symetric positions migh

Well, there's a way to get it with what I consider a slight cheat. Set it to Gigantic Galaxy, Scattered stars, drop the races down to about 6 (though I did get a beautiful start with 9 opponents once, owned a quarter of the galaxy with not one alien planet mixed in with mine by the end of the expansion phase), and then, on your first move, do a "show ownership" on the minimap. If it looks like yo

One thing I found is that on gigantic map with abundant stars and tight clusters, there are so few clusters that I usually start with at least one, if not two, races almost on top of me (in 9 opponent games, that is). I fixed that by switching to scattered stars, at least.

Sorry these are coming in spurts, been playing with a notebook next to my computer to take notes, and I only make it back here when the game crashes at inopportune times. 1) Somewhere along the way, I lost at least some of my racial bonuses. I had spent 3 points on +4 to sensor range, and that is DEFINITELY gone. 2) I overwrite the names of saved ships (will probably stop th

Ship design: For the most part, the data is there. There are a few cases where the relevant data got pushed of the right of the visible area due to how much other info is in the box, however. Colony ships don't NEED life support, it's just very useful. In fact, I've got versions of colony ships and constructors saved with no life support specifically so that I can crank them out faster when I'm not spreading out. Main map zoom: It's the

1) saved ship designs can be used even if you don't have enough miniturization to recreate them. 2) This one is hard to describe: Have a starport complete and turn up in the GNN window. Select "Go to planet." Select "go to shipyard". Select a ship. Select "Done". You are now back at the GNN window with a completely black background, and if you select "Done" in the GNN window, you wind up back at the planet screen for the planet that com

1) agreed, glad it's going to be fixed. Actually, I got the same results from taking the +60 influence bonus as a racial stat. 2) I thought about that, but was thinking the other way around, your influence shouldn't extend outside your explored space *snicker* 3) Depends on what you mean. If you're talking hyperion/omega improvements, I don't see that as a problem. If you're talking about the fact that, for example, a research

Seperate techs for the races makes sense, except then the Thalan have noone completing with them for their trade good. Possibly made up for by the fact that noone else would be interested in it, but I'm not sure of that.

Getting back on topic, it really isn't until nuclear or biological weapons (whichever comes first, depending on the tech bent of that civ) that a pre-spacefaring civilization could wipe itself out. Personally, I don't think that the Drengin ever would have gotten into the cold war to begin with, mostly because the first government to develop weapons of mass destruction would have quickly become THE world government. Also note I'm not saying that that

1) did you install the multimedia package? It's a seperate install, and without it, there is no sound. 2) agreed. 3) I've noticed things showing through the fog of war even without reloading. 4) Also true. 5) Send more constructors, when they reach the starbase, you'll get a popup asking you if you want to expand that starbase, and if you say yes, it will present you with a list of options. 6) nev

Actually, I have thought about it. Without conflict, I don't think a race would be as motivated to improve on their situation. Why invent a wall if you have noone to keep out? Many computer hobbyists know that the first programmable digital computer was ENIAC, but how many know what ENIAC was for? It was for the military (originally for computing artillery firing tables). First viable jet engines? The military. Where would the space program be i

I think it was put best by someone (can't remember who) who said that it doesn't take much intelligence to sneak up on a carrot. I'm not ruling out intelligent pacifistic herbivors, but I don't think they'd evolve on a planet with predators and it's hard to imagine a total lack of predators (though James P. Hogan did a good job in the "Gentle Giants" series of books). In your example, the herbivors would have to reach a point that they coul

I wouldn't be surprized if they blew themselves up, but I also wouldn't be surprized if their cunning and intelligence found a solution to that. It's the total pacifists that I don't think would survive to be the dominant species on their planet, let alone start wandering the stars.

I don't like it, especially if you apply it to military construction as well as social. My heavy industry planets were created so that they can crank out things fast, not to help backwater planets. It also isn't very realistic. Now, I wouldn't be opposed to something like a colony ship, but is shipping in parts to speed up the process, but that would have to be done in such a way as to make it hard to exploit. At least one of the Civ seri

For the most part, there aren't many predesigned ships yet. Basically, colony ship, constructors, freighters, scouts, survey vessels, and defenders are it, unless I'm forgetting one or two. There might be a predesigned transport ship as well, I think I've seen that. At some point (I can't remember the details) the developers are going to add many predesigned ships, but we're not there yet.
